April, 2022
Students at Davis Park Elementary are using CAD (Computer Aided Design) technology to create 3D artwork! Art teacher, Ms. Fish, was able to purchase a 3D printer with her mini grant to enrich her students' art education.
Witness the successes that occur when community and schools work together! Please join us for breakfast and an engaging program featuring Career & Technical Education programs. Please park in the north lot of Terre Haute North High School and enter through the north doors. Although not required, you may RSVP to vcef@vigoschools.org or call 812-462-4077.

On May 4, 2022, during National Teacher Appreciation Week, nearly 500 people will be celebrating thirty-three outstanding Vigo County School Corporation educators at the 36th Annual Vigo County Education Foundation Excellence in Education Awards. We are thrilled to hold the largest and longest-running teacher recognition banquet of its kind in person once again!

MINI GRANT FEATURE:
STEAM in the Art Room

Students in Mrs. Fish's Davis Park Elementary art room are utilizing CAD (Computer Automated Design) software on a new 3D printer purchased through a grant from the Vigo County Education Foundation. Students use TinkerCad to create models on their Chromebooks and see these designs come to life in the classroom on a 3D printer. This enhances STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) applications in the art room.  Mrs. Fish writes, "With the progression of technology in the art, design, and the engineering world, 3D printing will essentially become a commodity for many professions. Learning this technology is an asset to students to see a 2D design on their paper come to life in a 3D program, then in physical form on the printer. Students learn the mechanics of a 3D printer such as changing filament, bed leveling, what files the printer reads, the right temperature for filament, adhesion, slicing etc. This technology is used today to design toys, medical supplies, models for architecture and vehicles, etc. Another plus to this project is the ability to use it to create adaptations or modifications for students with disabilities such as braille or tools to help grasp pencils, etc. The students that use this technology will get their feet wet in CAD programs.
SCHOOLWIDE GRANT FEATURE: Morning STEM-ulation!
Terre Town Elementary students are "STEM"ulated each day with activities that wake up their brains, build problem-solving skills and build teamwork. This project was made possible by the Eva M. Long Memorial Fund.
