NEW BLOG POST: How to Get Involved with Teaching ✍
"When I’m able to help someone understand a concept, it feels really rewarding to me; the moment something clicks for them, when they get unstuck and see a bigger picture, the sense of awe you see in their eyes is such an incredible moment! ... I also care about providing a safe, warm, and positive space for students to ask their questions and feel supported and validated while doing so, which is something that I’ve taken from the many great instructors I’ve interacted with and has helped me a lot in my own learning journey."
- Maryam Azmandian

Interested in getting involved in teaching? Whether that's through joining CSM or applying to course staff for your favorite class, we've got you covered! We interviewed members of the AWE community who have been involved in teaching and are excited to share their experiences and advice for all of you 👩‍🏫

Read the full blog post to learn about how to get involved in teaching, the skills you develop from it, and advice from TAs, SMs, and more!
Updates from DE&I Department 💕

The DE&I department would like to get the AWE community’s perspective on how to improve your experiences in STEM classes at Cal. To better inform how we can best advocate for y’all on an institutional level, please reply back in this thread on Slack with any of your experiences, thoughts, or viewpoints!

  • How do you feel currently supported in your CS/EECS classes (name, class, and experiences) or when you took lower div CS/EECS classes (61a, 61b, 70, 16a, 16b)? Where do you currently find support from inside and outside of class (e.g. seeing women in your discussion section, female mentors, AWE’s #random or #screm channels, etc)?
  • How would you have liked to receive support (e.g. mentorship, more OH, discussion sections specifically for underrepresented minorities)? Is there a certain class where additional support would’ve been most helpful? Additionally, for anyone on course staff, do you have any specific insights on supporting folx from all backgrounds?
  • Anything else that you think would be helpful for us to know!

We understand that it may be daunting to share such personal experiences on a public Slack channel, so feel free to DM anyone on the DE&I department (AWEfficer: Andrea Wang, committee members: Riya Singhal, Xuirui Chen) through Slack with any of your insights or pointers if you’re more comfortable in doing so!Thank you for your help in making EE&CS classes more accessible to womxn in STEM :)
