It’s CARNIVAL time! Don’t forget to come join us TODAY after school at the PTA hosted School Carnival. Join us to play games, socialize and come hungry!! You can treat yourself to yummy grilled cheese, BBQ and ice cream from the food trucks.
There are a few fun things on the calendar for next week…
We’re excited to see students bike, roll or walk to school next week for Bike to School Day. This year’s event coincides with the unofficial Star Wars day- May the 4th (Be With You). So feel free to have students wear any Star Wars or space gear or clothes (just no face masks or accessories please).
Celebrate the amazing teachers here at Centennial during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 2-May 6). PTA will be generously supporting school staff next week and it would be awesome if families want to send their crew leaders notes of appreciation as well.
Friday, May 6th
We have a Student Leadership bake sale on the west playground between 8:30 and 9:10 and then again at dismissal between 4:10 and 4:40. Student Leadership is raising funds to purchase more playground equipment. Please stop by!
May 6th is also Better World Day. As an EL Education partner school, we are celebrating Better World Day with tree planting and Trout Release at Berkeley Lake. See below for info from Ms. Michelle. Thank you to Ms. Nicole for coordinating the tree planting, and Ms. Michelle and parent volunteers to help with Trout Release! See below for opportunities to volunteer. We appreciate your support!
Lastly, don’t forget that there is NO school for students on Monday, May 2nd. We’ll see you all on Tuesday.
Next week is going to be super busy and fun!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Laura and Emily

Science News Thank you! Two big shout outs to community members Maya S and David K. Maya is hosting all seven Kindergarten and First Grade crews at her home to visit the seven chickens who live there. Students get to ask questions, visit the chicken coop, see fresh eggs, and even feed the chickens. David K, owner ofRaleigh St. Bakeryand father to an incoming Centennial student, worked with our ECE-4 classes to bake bread in the science lab. Students experienced the science of how simple ingredients can change to create delicious, fresh-baked bread.

Students in Kindergarten and First grade will focus on birds and how Berkelely Lake provides a safe habitat for many local birds.
Trout Release: Mark your calendars for Friday, May 6 for the TroutRelease! Each crew will spend time at the lake exploring stations with community members, as well as releasing a trout into Berkeley Lake. Feel free to join anytime between 12:30 and 4:00.
