Thank you for reading our latest newsletter as we say goodbye to our project officer, Geraldine, who has been coordinating our network on a day-to-day basis since September 2019.

It's Creativity and Wellbeing Week!

This year's theme is "GET CREATIVE GET OUTDOORS" so we are celebrating some of our great local practice over the last year across a range of art forms, including:
  • Balbir Singh Dance Company's Interactive Story Walks in Gledhow Valley Woods as part of the Thriving Communities social prescribing pilot,
  • Man About Town's Vinyl Picnics; playing records in green spaces across Leeds as part of their work with men at a higher risk of suicide,
  • Skippko's year-long Studio 42 project, supporting carers to explore outdoors digital photography to document and comment on their situations and the world around them,
  • Little London Art's programme of cultural trips for people over 50 including museums, galleries and heritage sites, and
  • 23PRESS's book of local walks by the Elders Group at the Cardigan Community Centre, released this week! Learn more about this in our podcast section...
If you want to know more about what is going on, please visit the Creativity and Wellbeing Week website and Age UK's month-long Age of Creativity Festival (where there is still time to list your activities). We have recently been recommended the Creative Medicine Podcast - hosted by Birmingham-based GP & musician, Dr Amal Lad, each episode features a guest using creativity to improve lives. The podcast explores their personal journey and shares tips on how you can bring more creativity into your life. Listen here.

We have also been enjoying a profile of 23PRESS - an inclusive publishing platform co-created in LS6 as a part of Leeds 2023 Year of Culture - in the Light On Leeds podcast. The first publication is a book of local walks by the Elders Group at the Cardigan Community Centre in which all the writers participated. This involved getting exercise and fresh air while enjoying the social element alongside discovering new routes, views and conversations through the neighbourhood. They're keen that many members of the community are able to enjoy the walks too, particularly as they're thoughtfully designed with access and different walking abilities in mind. The book includes beautiful map illustrations alongside clear text description, historical points of interest, photography and artwork. Listen here and learn more by contacting 23press.org@gmail.com
