Monday, May 2 Watercolor Studio Workshop - 12:45-2:45pm Brick Building, 97 School Street (thru Monday, June 6) - Explore the many dimensions of watercolor, wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, transparency and opaqueness. Spontaneity, imagination, and interpretation will be combined with techniques of composition, line, value, and perspective. All skill levels welcome! $70 for residents 60+ subsidized by the COA. Tuesday, May 3 Reading Poetry Anew - 10:00am-12:00pm via Zoom - This informal course, led by Mary Zoll, will include poetry readings and reactions, discussions of the patterns and techniques used in the poems, and perhaps some intellectual understanding of the poems. Tuesday, May 3 Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum - 1:00pm via Zoom - Learn how President Truman shaped the highest office of the land, the successes and failures of his Presidency, and how has history viewed his administration since his death. Presented by Harry S. Truman Library and Museum Education Director Mark Adams. Register for this presentation and discussion by calling the COA at 978-371-2895 by Friday, April 29.

Wednesday, May 4 Women’s Breakfast - 9:00am Town Hall Clark Room - Catch up and enjoy some breakfast treats and coffee. Space limited. Register by calling the Carlisle COA at 978-371-2895 by Wednesday, April 27.

Friday, May 6 Partners in Rhyme - 12:45-1:45pm via Zoom (six sessions) - Older adults explore poetry with high school students. Adults and students work together in small groups where they read and discuss poetry that is relevant to both age groups. After a lively discussion that focuses on personal responses to a poem, everyone does some reflective and creative writing.  Funded by the Concord-Carlisle Community Chest. Friday, May 6 Art at the Gleason Reception - 7:00-9:00pm Library - Enjoy live music and refreshments. All proceeds from purchase of art works and opening reception entry fee of $10 at the door will be donated to the Gleason Public Library Endowment and the Ukrainian Red Cross.  Sponsored by Gleason Library Endowment. Saturday, May 7 Dementia Caregiver Stress and Self-Care - 10:00-11:15am; repeats Wednesday, May 18 5:00-6:15pm Town Hall or Brick Building - Sponsored by Carlisle Rec - Instructor is Olivia Evans, CDP, CMDCP. This 1-hour interactive program is for anyone - caregivers, family, friends, neighbors, professionals - who interacts with persons living with dementia. You will learn the basics of the disease and its progression, what is normal vs. what may be dementia, how to approach stress, and avenues for self-care. You will walk away equipped with resources and tools to feel supported, knowledgeable, and confident, no matter your role in their life. Cost is $15 for Carlisle Seniors. Link here to register.

Tuesday, May 10 Computer Security for Seniors - 1:00pm via Zoom - Seniors are increasingly the targets of email and phone scams, as well as computer malware of all types. This lecture, offered by Carlisle resident and COA tech volunteer Bob Supnik, is aimed at helping seniors protect themselves from scams and malware. It will cover commonsense protection measures for computers and mobile devices; how to recognize scams; and what to do if you should fall victim. Friday, May 13 Carlisle Chamber Orchestra - 8:00pm Congregational Church - All Tchaikovsky program - Piano Concerto #1 with Sonya Ovrutsky Fensome, Symphony #2, and Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture. No registration required; concert with free with donations appreciated.

Sunday, April 24 Poetry at the Library - 3:00pm via Zoom - Presented by the Concord Library; funded by the Friends of the Concord Library - A celebration of National Poetry Month with the lyrically skillful and poignant Kathleen Aguero and José Angel Araguz who will read from their newest collections and engage in a Q & A about the creative process. Tuesday, April 26 Turtle Talk - 6:00pm via Zoom - Presented by the Concord Library - Ben Phillips, a graduate student at the University of New Hampshire in the Wildlife Biology and Conservation program, will introduce the freshwater turtle species found in New England and cover some background information about freshwater turtle biology and ecology. The presentation will also cover the landscape and environmental factors that place turtle populations at risk, the methods that have been used to monitor turtle populations, and potential steps for the future of freshwater turtle conservation. Tuesday, April 26 Power and Liberty: A Conversation with Gordon Wood - 7:00pm hybrid program - in person at Concord Museum or via Zoom - Brown University professor, Gordon Wood, will discuss his new book, Power and Liberty: Constitutionalism in the American Revolution, in which he distills a lifetime of work on constitutional innovations during the Revolutionary era with historian Richard Brown of the University of Connecticut. Thursday, April 28 Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) - 10:00am via phone (855-927-0891) - Sponsored by AARP Massachusetts - ACP is a new federal program to help lower the cost of high-speed internet for eligible households. A special guest from the Federal Communications Commission will share details about the program and take your questions. Registration not required.
 
Thursday, April 28 Titanic the Musical - 8:00pm 51 Walden, Concord - The Concord Players are offering an open rehearsal for Seniors for a $10 donation at the door with open seating. No registration necessary. The theater is handicapped accessible. Link here to confirm their COVID-19 policy at that time. At present they require everyone to wear an appropriate face covering.

Saturday, May 14 An Enchanted Evening - 6:30-10:30pm Concord Country Club; 246 Old Road to 9 Acre Corner, Concord - The Concord Museum’s annual spring Gala. Enjoy cocktails, a delightful selection of hors d’oeuvres and entrees, and dancing with local band Mid-Life Crisis. You will also have the chance to win one-of-a kind items in our live and silent auctions.
