Unconventional Wisdom

Matthew 2:1-2 (NIV®)
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

Conventional wisdom is a term for what the majority of people are willing to do. These particular men, the magi, were following very unconventional wisdom by seeking the Messiah. They were important men who had left much behind and expended considerable time and effort to find and worship the young King. There are other Bible characters who left behind the familiar to seek the Lord. The widowed prophetess, Anna, spent her days and nights in the Temple, fasting, and praying, and looking for the Messiah. The disciples left behind the security of profitable occupations to follow Jesus. God is inviting each one of us to seek Him and join Him in what He is doing. It will require a realignment of your priorities. But no matter what your job description or day job is, you can be engaged in God’s purposes.

THINK ABOUT IT
Are there places where you have demonstrated unconventional wisdom in your pursuit of God? How was your life rearranged as you did so?

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I want to be bold in my pursuit of Your Kingdom purposes, willing to sacrifice temporal things that give me security. Help me take all the risks of faith You invite me toward so Your plans might be fulfilled in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Blessings,
