It’s FINALLY starting to feel like spring here. Sometimes waiting for warm weather is hard when you live at high altitude because it comes so much later than other places. And even around here there is a huge difference between the level of grass and buds and leaves on the trees here and in a town at lower elevation just 30 minutes away.
There are almost no leaves on the trees yet. And there are some trees that will not get leaves until June. I had ordered a bunch of fruit trees for planting and the company looks at your growing zone and sends them according to that. So I got my trees the first week of April. I JUST put them in the ground four days ago. They’ve been in front of my dining room window that whole time because it was well below freezing at night up until last weekend.
We still have plenty of freezing nights ahead of up but the days are warmer now, so I planted them. They are hardy to zone 4, so I’m not worried about them dying but it would be nice for them to bloom this year and maybe make a few apples and pears. (I bought them as 6-7ft saplings.)
For the first time I think my donkeys are noticing the late spring too. Now that we have a horse to compare things to they are wondering why they still have their thick, winter, Brillo-pad coats when the stupid horse is shedding like crazy. They will not lose their winter coats until LATE June. Unfortunately for them. Some years I feel like no sooner do they lose their winter fur that it’s already coming back in.
I got sick of brooding my chicks in the house. I had an older group that is about a month old now and even though my big chicken coop is not ready yet (waiting on the fence to be finished), I have the goat house. The goats won’t be here until May 10. So I put my older chicks in there. My younger chicks are going in there tomorrow too. That goat house is warm, even at night. So they’re be OK. But I have new chicks coming the week of May 4. So I need the brooder space for them.
I also have bees coming next weekend. They are coming a week early so I’ve been busily painting my hive to be ready. I’ve never had bees so… this should be interesting.
I have not started any of my gardens yet. Just the flower bulbs I planted last fall—and they are growing nicely in the front yard. But the late spring gives us high-altitude people plenty of time to get our garden shit together. You cannot plant outside until June here. So I’m really only a week late in starting seeds.

These books, you guys. I love them. I wrote in my End of Book Shit for Damaged Gods that I am writing this series FOR ME. If you guys like it, that’s awesome. But if you don’t, I don’t care. I’m writing it for me. I’m loving these characters, and this world, and all the places we’ve yet to go. I really loved Damaged Gods—and I have to say, that is one of my all-time favorite audiobooks ever. I love Junco, of course. That’s my favorite audiobook. And Vic Vaughn is Vicious is one I listen to often because I love it so much. But Damaged Gods is right up there. I love it more than Sick Heart and I really, really love the Sick Heart audio too.
Not to brag, or anything, but I have been putting out some fucking amazing audiobooks in the last few years. They really, really are good. Great narrators. They make all the difference.
BUT BAD NEWS – the Savage Saints audiobook won’t be out until late summer. Unfortunately, great narrators have packed schedules and one of the narrators for Savage Saints could not do the book until June. So there will be a wait. But it will be worth it.

I’m going to release a THIRD BOOK in this Monsters of Saint Mark’s world in December and it’s already up for pre-order. So I figured I’ve give you guys a little cover reveal.
