Dear VCS Parents and Friends,
Continuing with the “God is” series and with Resurrection Sunday this past Sunday, it is only natural to look at the concept that “Christ is Risen!” In many churches the pastor will call out somewhere at the beginning of the service, “Christ is risen!” to which the congregants usually respond with “Christ is risen, indeed” (Lk 24:6, 34). What a tremendous thought knowing that our Savior is in heaven sitting at the right hand of the Father (Lk 22:69). The Apostle Paul comments that because of this fact, we can have hope (Col 1:5). It is this eternal hope, this long-range hope that allows us to operate effectively in this world as our focus is beyond this world. I trust that you have that kind of focus.
Continue to pray for Gail Kerr, VCS’s Kindergarten teacher. I talked with her this past Monday, and she commented that though she was hoping to be back in the classroom, her body just isn’t ready for the stress and strain of being the classroom for even a half-day. Please pray that the Father would encourage her with continued progress in being physically restored.
You may recall that at one point last fall I equated the progress of the school year to the Iditarod Dog Sled Race and the fact that the health of the dogs pulling the sled is critical to gain a possible victory. The situation with Mrs. Kerr being out for this extended time is impacting the outcome of the school year for the students in her class. We have been blessed to have Mrs. Joy Mielke filling in for the bulk of the time that Mrs. Kerr has been away which will assuage some of that impact. Nevertheless, our team is not running a full capacity. Again, please for a quick and timely return of Mrs. Kerr.
The end of the year is looming upon us. For the record, the staff only has 25 instructional days left for the year! WOW!
UPDATE! The next regularly scheduled VCS Board meeting will be May 3, @ 6:30pm. (The school board is still look for 2-3 additional members. Please contact me if interested.)
Cinco de Mayo is Thursday, May 5th, and what would the day be without a lunch of tacos? Therefore, the Seniors will be serving tacos for hot lunch - $3.
Clean-a-thon – May 6th. This year’s clean-a-thon, weather permitting, will be on Friday, May 6th. The National Honor Society students have been organizing the day and will serving a bag lunch for everyone. We are, however, looking for parent volunteers to help with the various groups. Please let the office know by Friday, 4/29, if you can help.
It is not too early to mark your calendars for the Awards Night/Spring Corporate meeting – May 26th.
The High School has been participating in a drama class and will be putting on an original production, “Homicide in the Heights” on May 13th @ 7PM here at the school. To make it more of a festive event, they are asking for some “best bakers” to donate a dessert with the proceeds going to the purchase of a new bus. Additionally, the class is asking for a $10 donation per person with all proceeds going to the new bus.
Pressing forward for His glory,
Ron Brace
