This is your last chance to get your donation (up to $100) trippled. Time is running out.  The doubling ends at 12:00 Noon.  Make a donation to The Environmental Conservancy of North Port at The Giving Challenge NOW.
This year we have a special bonus.  A generous supporter who wishes to remain anonymous has pledged to match all Giving Challenge contributions up to $5,000.

Every family member can give a separate donation on different credit / debit cards. So, if you give $100 and your spouse gives $100 and your child gives $100, that $300 becomes $900 for the Conservancy.

Clear-cutting of trees from lots is often a shock and gets attention easily; but beneath those trees, native plants thrive that seem to often be misunderstood and/or overlooked completely. Routinely scraped away by machinery, underbrush mowed down or dug out/covered up with sod, an amazing variety of beautiful and hearty plants adapted to our Florida weather await discovery.

Routinely we perform plant inventories on our lots. In the initial plant inventory we did on our first lot we acquired (Lot 1) we counted 51 different plants!

If you multiply 51 plants by the vast number of lots that are cleared daily in North Port alone, and multiply that by the week or the month - and then expand that to acreage that is also being cleared for commercial development all around us - thousands upon thousands of native plants are being removed from our natural environment all the time and few - to none in many cases - are being planted back; instead they are replaced with generic landscaping plants, Big Box store non-native plants, or sod.

While native plant nurseries are abundant with natives, not all plants are cultivated and sold in these nurseries, leaving a vast number of them to face permanent erasure from our landscape as times go by.
