Happy Spring, everybody!

Spring has sprung and love is in the air, and that means LOTS of puppies are coming through our doors! Are you interested in opening your door to a furry friend as well? If so, become a Lakeshore PAWS foster!

Fostering is a lifesaver for shelter dogs. It gives them a chance to decompress, receive one-on-one attention, and interact with other dogs, cats, and children. We also learn a lot more about the dogs through the observations of their foster families and can better communicate a dog's likes and dislikes to potential adopters. With that knowledge, we match dogs with their fur-ever families much faster! Not to mention that when a lot of our dogs are in foster homes, we have extra shelter space and can help relieve overcrowded rescues.

We're excited to announce that we're bringing back the Slumber Paw-ty Program, a short-term foster program that allows fosters to take a dog home for a night or a weekend. It's a great opportunity to experience fostering on a small scale and give the dogs a much-deserved field trip! If you're interested in having a slumber paw-ty or have any questions about fostering, please email us at
info@lakeshorepaws.org, or fill out our foster application.

As always, thank you for everything you do!

With Gratitude,
Lakeshore PAWS
🏆 ⭐️ Volunteer of the Month ⭐️ 🏆
Gary Wade!
Gary has been an important member of Lakeshore PAWS since 2018. He grew up loving dogs - that's him at 16-years-old with his family's dog, Mitzi! From cocker spaniel mixes to chow chows and chihuahuas, Gary has owned many dogs and loved them all.

Gary has his hands in everything at Lakeshore PAWS. From facilitating meet and greets with potential adopters to driving dogs to events, he always helps however he can. His greatest joy is picking up dogs from overcrowded shelters or bad situations all over Northwest Indiana, bringing them to the center, and watching them transform into brand new, happy dogs.

Aside from being a rock star volunteer, Gary has actual rock star experience! After retiring from his lifelong career in management, he worked and toured with the band Foreigner for about three years. He’s our resident celebrity at Lakeshore PAWS for more reasons than one! ☺️

Gary’s friendliness, optimism, and dedication are just a few things that make him an amazing person and volunteer. Gary says that through volunteering, he has found his purpose for the rest of his life. We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have him now and for years to come!
⭐️ 🐾 Dog of the Month 🐾 ⭐️
Oswald!
Oswald is a 2-year-old Shepherd mix weighing about 76 pounds. His best friend, Mosley, was adopted last week so Oswald's on the lookout for a new BFF...could that be YOU?! ❤️

Oswald is a playful goofball with a sweet disposition. He doesn't realize how big he is, which becomes apparent when he comes in at HIGH-SPEED for a hug! This dude is a big hugger. He will do best with older/sturdy kids in his fur-ever home since he could potentially knock little ones over.

Oswald LOVES other dogs and will thrive in an active home with brothers or sisters. Oswald will require some training as he doesn't know all of his commands, but he's a fast learner.

Oswald is going to be an amazing addition to the family that takes a chance on him. Come meet this handsome hunk and experience one of his first-class hugs for yourself!
