WHY SLOW FOOD?
From its founding in 1989, Slow food has always rallied behind the principles of Good, Clean and Fair Food For All. We know that food brings joy and is delightful, but also that good food should be a basic human right for all people.
We believe that food should nourish and sustain not only us, but our communities, the planet and all the hands that make it. We acknowledge inequitable food systems and policies and are working to build a better, more inclusive food system,
And we celebrate the joy inherent in sharing food and meals with one another.

- Growing engagement with the national network around racial equity and justice and a rethinking of our mission with the new National Statute
- Developing new curriculum for the School Gardens initiative, which sustains gardening programs in dozens of local schools
- Supporting Slow Food’s Ark of Taste, which identifies and preserves the stories and legacies of Indigenous and other important foods
- Creating news and storytelling content that amplifies a diverse array of voices and ideas from across the Slow Food movement
- Ensuring administrative support for the complex needs of 100 volunteer-led chapters in the US and maintaining a small but mighty team of four Slow Food USA employees who support these local, national and international efforts
