What we're up to:

More than 300 local business leaders gathered at Semiahmoo Resort recently to recognize the hard-working people and companies that help make Whatcom County special.

Patti went and reported that felt good to feel the energy of a large group gathering again. It felt good to see that a client and friend was featured as one of the top business leaders in our community (way to go, Tonja!). It felt good to hug people. Lots of goodness.

Being in the flow of the business community at events like this is always so inspiring. It is a good reminder that there are really good (and humble) people out there who constantly hustle, shift and grow -- doing all they can to keep people employed and to keep providing goods and services that we all need. It feels good (and important) to pause and recognize that from time to time.

Featured business: Junior Ski to Sea Race set to return in 2023, Junior parade has uncertain future

The Junior Ski to Sea Race and Parade events have been canceled for the third year in a row; however, plans are in the works for one of those events — the Junior Ski to Sea Race — to return under the management of Whatcom Events in 2023.

A volunteer-based nonprofit organization, Whatcom Events owns and organizes large-scale local events that showcase the diverse natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities of Whatcom County, including Ski to Sea, Tour de Whatcom, the Mount Baker Hill Climb and Trails to Taps.

Whatcom Events recently assumed ownership of the Junior Ski to Sea Race and is planning to relaunch the kid-friendly event in 2023.

“We have received numerous calls and emails about the status of the Junior Ski to Sea Race this year,” said Anna Rankin, race director at Whatcom Events. “We’re asking people to hang in there until 2023.”
