Good afternoon,

Construction activities continue to accelerate as we work to decarbonize the Oberlin College campus. The campus modernization program, known as the Sustainable Infrastructure Program (SIP), will eliminate the majority of campus greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy efficiency, reduce campus water consumption, improve building comfort, and reduce operating costs.

The current work focus is on underground hot water and chilled water pipe installation, installation of underground pipe that will connect the future geothermal wellfield to the Services Building, and renovation of the Cox Administration Building.

This year’s underground work includes hot water and chilled water pipes getting installed from the Services Building and heading to the north up to Union Street Housing, in the general vicinity of Woodland Street. The contractor is installing geothermal water pipes from the central Services Building to the north practice fields with the routing being on the east side of Mercy Hospital, and then running along the western edge of the soccer field and track up to the north fields.

To accommodate pipe installation, there will be road closures over the next few weeks:

  • April 27 – May 3, 2022, Woodland Street at Noah Hall and Barrows Hall.
  • May 4 – 9, 2022, Lorain Street immediately west of the Woodland Street intersection.
  • May 10 – 13, 2022, Lorain Street immediately east of the Mercy Allen Hospital entrance.
  • May 16 – 20, 2022, Woodland Street directly west of the Science Center.
  • June 10 – 12, 2022, Union Street to the west of Professor, between Langston Hall and Union Street Housing.
