Victorian Aerobatic Championships

20 competitors in total participated in one of the best aerobatic contests ever at Tocumwal, NSW over Easter. Hot competition in Sportsman with 9 competitors - only 2 from Victoria (that is telling).

Congratulations to Darren Godbold who won Graduate less than two weeks after gaining his tailwheel, spin and aerobatic endorsements with Adam Thomson in Super Decathlon VH-UPG. A steep learning curve indeed.

Stjepan Nikolic was very close behind - hard work in a Cessna A152 - great effort.

In Sportsman, second place went to Jason Tang flying his recently acquired Pitts S-1E - congratulations!

Congratulations to Geoff McDougall - third place in Sportsman flying Super Decathlon VH-UPG with  a personal best % score in the Unknown and an overall 82.868%.

David Hooke moved up to Sportsman this year flying a Pitts S-2C to come 6th with a score of 79.735%. David completed his 1500 ft aerobatic endorsement just prior to the contest. Great achievement.

Bruno Roque moved up to Advanced category this year and won it with a score of 65.677%. Congratulations!

News and

This Giles withdrew from the contest due to engine problems.
Speaking of Giles, one of the Ozaeros pilots has just purchased a Giles G-202. Another Ozaeros pilot is looking at buying an aerobatic aeroplane too.

Stjepan flew Cessna A152 Aerobat VH-HEZ in the contest but has now switched to a Super Decathlon. Will we see him in a Pitts soon?
Congratulations upon the 1500 ft aerobatic endorsement, David! Intermediate category next year.
Rare to get the whole fleet together:
Geoff "at home" in UPG.
That Sportsman Unknown sequence was diabolical for a Super Decathlon.
The Graduate sequence did not result in 5G!

UPG is coming up  for a 100 hrly inspection soon so pilots will see some improvements including:
  • Electronic CO monitor
  • Perhaps the SkyEcho will be fitted more permanently?

Rumours

Jason did very well in his new Pitts!
Bruno enjoying flying and winning in our Pitts.
Darren's view of the aerobatic box.
Expect Darren in Sportsman at the next contest but first he will be undertaking a flight instructor course. Aerobatic instructor next?
Congratulations to Louis Delacretaz, Patrick Byrne and Rishi Sabesan who recently obtained their tailwheel, spin and aerobatic endorsements:

Not to mention Charles upon gaining his 500 ft aerobatic endorsement - congratulations!
