Hello <<First Name>>,
A few thoughts on feeling stuck in life.
A friend told me he’s stuck with a job he doesn’t care about 一 one that only “pays the bills”.
He craves for a mission 一 a cause bigger than himself to stand for. Something that would get him excited to get out of bed in the morning.
It made me reflect because, to be honest, I don’t have that either. Despite testing a few paths, I still don’t know what’s “the thing” I want to dedicate my life to.
Maybe I’ve been too self-centered. Maybe it takes time to “stumble upon it”.
Whatever it is, I don’t think you need a “big vocation” to feel engaged with life. I don’t have one and I still wake up excited about the future every day.
The reason is that I choose my own goals and do my best to pursue them. For example, I wanted to:
- work remotely ✅
- join nomad communities ✅
- be in a relationship ✅
Making these things happen actually improved my life, and inspired me to set new goals:
- build a creative career 🔨
- achieve financial independence 🔨
- improve the quality of my relationship 🔨
Simply working towards these goals, observing the progress, and knowing that things can be better.. is enough to wake up excited in the morning.
A few things are key, though:
- You must pick goals that genuinely matter to you. This may sound obvious, but it’s not. In fact, to know what you really want you must learn how to think freely.
- Pick something that challenges you. If it doesn't get you out of your comfort-zone, it won't be rewarding.
- You have to build momentum. You can't achieve one goal and go back to the same life. You must feel evolving all the time.
So, if you're currently "feeling stuck" in life, maybe you don't need a big purpose. Instead, try to make a small dream happen 一 and then another, and then another.
See how your life unfolds.
