Membership Corner
At tomorrow’s rehearsal, and probably for the next few, there will be available a Performance Commitments sheet available for you to indicate your availability for the various dates UVCB will play this summer. (This same sign-up sheet will be available soon on line as well.) It will be helpful to know the personnel resources available [or not available] for the various performances, so please check this out.
Similarly - but separately - there will a sheet available to request T-shirts for the 2022 Prouty. UVCB will be playing this event on Saturday, July 9, 10 a.m. at the former Hanover Country Club. We’ll be wearing our UVCB uniform shirts, but the Prouty Tees are pretty cool and collectible. Sign-up for these will be available at the next few rehearsals.
Finally, watch for details coming soon for requesting UVCB uniform polo shirts, hoodies, etc. You’ll definitely want to wear one when appearing with the band!

Greetings UVCB,
Our next rehearsal is tomorrow, April 25, 7:00 PM at OSLC.
Help Wanted (Salary and benefits are negotiable - but unlikely.) J
The Band needs assistance in communicating and confirming performance opportunities. Unfortunately, our usual time slot at the Covered Bridge Half-Marathon has been filled by another ensemble because I did not confirm our availability when the event’s organizers needed a response. That’s at least our second missed opportunity (although we would likely have declined one invitation because of distance and conflicts.
Sarah Chamberlin (our former Business Manager) set a lofty standard to which we can aspire, but for now I’m asking for volunteers to help corral potential gigs into a workable schedule. Please contact me if you can help.
Marilyn Hill (our UVCB Webmaster) will be recording scheduled UVCB events on our website as they are confirmed. Tom McNeil, and David Perlman will be setting up Google Sheets on which UVCB members can indicate availability to perform at upcoming scheduled gigs and we plan reminders as the events approach in our newsletters.
UVCB Performances
We are planning to perform in the Norwich gazebo on Sunday, May 29, as part of that town’s Memorial Day observance. Separately, we remain committed to a performance in the next six weeks or so, date and locale to be determined.
Music Parts
If you do not have parts for the music we rehearse, we invite you to download and print the relevant music from this website:"November 2021 parts" folder. (This site includes parts for the West Side Story medley we’ve begun rehearsing, also available within this folder on UVCB's Google Drive account.) If possible, it helps if we navigate to - and print out - the relevant part(s) for our instruments in advance of rehearsals.
If you are unable to obtain and print parts from this site, please email our Music Librarian, Jane Sachs, at jsachsnh@gmail.com so that she can provide copies at rehearsal. Thank you all; these steps will minimize rehearsal time devoted to distribution of parts.
Covid policy update
We continue to experience occasional Covid-positive cases among our fully vaccinated membership, as we knew we would. On behalf of us all, I thank those with exposure to Covid-positive cases or who test positive themselves for notifying Mark Nelson and me so that we can alert anyone within the Band who might then have become exposed by virtue of their proximity during rehearsals.
For new members, we look forward to the possibility of relaxing our Covid policies once we move outdoors in warmer weather (whenever that arrives). While we rehearse indoors however, proof of vaccination against Covid (i.e., basic series plus booster) continues to be required to participate in any in-person UVCB event. Members may demonstrate proof by emailing a copy of the CDC card to mark.nunlist@dartmouth.edu or texting that image to me at 603-448-7901. At the Board’s direction, I continue to maintain a confidential record of members’ vaccination status.
Fellow Band members occasionally announce that they plan to miss an upcoming rehearsal because they don’t feel well. We all applaud that concern for one another. Please excuse yourself if you have any symptoms of illness, regardless of any test result, and seek medical care and/or covid testing as appropriate.
There will be occasions when a UVCB member tests Covid-positive in these settings, despite having previously received a primary Covid vaccination series and booster. Any UVCB member who tests Covid-positive is welcome to return to in-person UVCB events following completion of the recommended five-day isolation period plus a further five days of mask-wearing around other people, feels well, and has obtained a negative Covid antigen test (e.g., an “at-home” Covid test). I am happy to share the rationale for that decision with any interested party.
Of course, the individual’s own healthcare is of paramount importance, and we encourage members to seek - and be guided by - appropriate medical advice.
Thank you all and stay well,
Mark Nunlist
