'BREATHE EASY'
THE NEW SINGLE FROM THE LAST INKLINGS
Breathe Easy is the latest single from THE LAST INKLINGS' award winning top 40 album The Impossible Wild. It is available on Bandcamp all streaming platforms and a new official video will be released on 29 April.
The song is a lullaby for the last child on earth. It is a warning to take heed of the decline of the natural world and the possibility of a post-apocalyptic future if we don't learn to manage our impact as humans. If we keep refusing to acknowledge and accept responsibility for the planet, eventually there may be a final lullaby sung for the final child. Scenes of lost nature are relayed as a fairy tale or folklore before the impact and finality is truly felt.
The instrumental sections after each verse grow ever more desperate in their struggle for resolution. There is an inevitability in both the lyrics and music that bubbles under the surface throughout, adding an impending sense of foreboding. The strings move in pentatonic patterns, producing unexpected harmonies that heighten the disconnect between the lullaby images and the arid reality.
