Monthly Maintenance Session

Saturday 30th April at 9.30am

Join us at Riverside Community Orchard for this month's activities including weeding, pruning and planting. There is lots to do on top of our regular maintenance activities putting guards up round our orchard trees and tending to the Woodland Wonderland.

We stop for a coffee break at 10.30am. Come and join us - we love to have a chat, answer your questions and tell you what we are up to.  Bring Your Own Drink.

From April to October we also meet on the second Thursday of every month at 6.30pm - everyone welcome
.

So far this year our volunteers have racked up a tremendous 80 hours working on our projects and as well as the routine weeding and maintaining activities we have:

Added two paths to our woodland gardens
Planted eight new trees
Put up 11 bird boxes
Planted numerous plants and flowers in the Story Garden

Earlier this month, in a exciting collaborative effort with the Riverbank Centre and Riverside Primary 12 bird boxes were made and put up around Riverside.

You can spot two kinds of boxes: one to attract Robins and Wrens and one for Blue Tits and Great Tits.

Within two days we had a family of blue tits move in - you can see the video on our
facebook page.

Let us know if you see any more!

Hedgehog Friendly Habitat

In March we were delighted to meet with Sammy, the Hedgehog Officer for the University of Stirling's Hedgehog Friendly Campus team.

Britain has lost a third of it's hedgehog population since the millennium and working with Sammy we are looking into way of attracting hedgehogs into Riverside and make it a good place for them to call home.

Our first step is to find out if we have any hedgehogs currently living in Riverside and with the help of some friends we plan to set up some footprint tunnels in both the green spaces and urban spaces in the area to identify where they might be.

Our next step will be to look at ways we can improve our spaces and hopefully increase the hedgehog population.  Hedgehog Street is a great place to find out more information.
We are please to have signed up for It's Your Neighbourhood for the fourth year.  Last year we were delighted to have been awarded and Outstanding rating.

It’s Your Neighbourhood groups focus on the three pillars of community participation, environmental responsibility and gardening achievement and we will be working towards this achievement again this year!
We'd love to welcome you to Riverside Naturally - we believe that our volunteers are what makes our charity so special.

No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome. We undertake a range of activities and there are many opportunities if you volunteer with us.
