Role: Practicum Placement & Professional Development Officer

Organization: Dalla Lana School of Public Health

The Practicum Placement and Professional Development Officer will manage and work to enhance the Dalla Lana School of Public Health’s position in two key areas: Practicum Placement and Professional Development for students. Key responsibilities include: overall management of the Practicum program and placements for several divisions within the school; providing leadership in the maintenance and ongoing development of placement programs, by field, and creation of transparent and efficient practicum policy and procedures; working with faculty and academic leaders to develop and maintain adequate and appropriate practicum opportunities for students, ongoing liaison activities among various stakeholders, external relations and development of partnerships with all levels of prospective practicum preceptors/employers; supporting the movement to, and maintenance of, practicum placement data using standard database and/or project managementsoftware.

The Practicum Placement and Professional Development Officer will also have responsibility for coordinating with the Public Health Alumni Association (PHAA) for the Student-Alumni Mentorship program, developing program materials, matching students and alumni, developing communication stories, and representing DLPSH at various outreach events.
 

General Responsibilities

  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities
  • Advising students and employers on options to resolve work-term issues and responding to complaints about student placement performance issues including conducting work term site visits
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
  • Identifying, fostering and maintaining relationships with potential and existing employers
  • Developing and implementing alumni engagement activities that support strategic objectives, including determining logistics for new initiatives
  • Providing advice and support to students and mentors on program delivery as well as implementing plans for student-alumni mentorship programming
  • Developing and implementing communication plans that support strategic objectives (developing content for marketing materials, editing content, promoting programming to employers)
  • Writing routine documents and summary reports on programs
