Greater Milwaukee Synod Assembly
May 20-21, 2022

Information for registered members
You're receiving this email as a registered member of Synod Assembly. This is how we will communicate important information to you as you prepare for this event and for our bishop election. We plan to send you one email per week. Please take time to read each email carefully and ask questions (call us at 414.671.1212 or email us at gmsoffice@gmselca.org) if you aren't sure about the information we're sending you.
What are the basics I need to know?
Our Synod Assembly for 2022 will be offered as a hybrid event. You may attend online or in-person at the Italian Community Center.
  • Online attendees will participate via zoom. Zoom will only be open to registered voting members. Anyone who is not a voting member may watch the assembly on our Facebook page.
  • Masks will be optional at the Italian Community Center; we will have KN95 masks available for all who wish to wear them.
  • All voting will take place electronically with Lumi voting software. Each voting member MUST have a smart phone, tablet or laptop to vote, whether you are in person or online.
  • If you need to change how you will attend (in person or online) after May 1, please let us know by calling 414.671.1212 or sending an email with your full name and congregation's name to gmsoffice@gmselca.org.
To-do list
In order for you to participate fully from an off-site location, we strongly recommend a system that includes a camera, microphone, and speakers. If you don't have this available, we encourage you to check with your congregation to see if you can borrow some equipment.

Make sure your operating system is fully up to date before Friday, May 20. We recommend using the most recent version of the Google Chrome web browser which you can get as a free download for your smartphone, tablet or laptop. Get Google Chrome here, on the App Store, or Google Play Store.

We're working hard to share as much information in advance of the assembly as possible. Please bookmark our assembly event page to help you prepare for the meeting. Consider adding a weekly reminder to your calendar to review the assembly event page for new information.

Did your congregation share our Assembly Snapshot Informational Sheet with you? You can find a copy here. It's full of helpful information.
How will we vote during synod assembly?
  •  All voting, whether you are in person at the Italian Community Center (ICC) or online, will take place with a smartphone, tablet, or laptop. We do not recommend sharing a device. Each voting member should have their own device.
  • A limited number of Chromebooks are available for those who requested one in advance during the registration process. These must stay on-site and cannot be taken home with you. You will need to return the device at the end of each day. Please give yourself an extra 30-45 minutes to register and receive your Chromebook.
Wednesday, May 18
  • Voting credentials will be emailed to you no later than noon on Wednesday, May 18. If you don’t receive your voting credentials in your email, please contact us immediately at 414.671.1212.
Friday, May 20
  • Log in to the Lumi voting portal no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, May 20. You may log in beginning at 3:30 pm. You will log into the Lumi portal with your voting credentials whether you are in person at the Italian Community Center or online.
  • There will be an important orientation session for all voting members beginning at 4:00 pm. This will be an opportunity to learn about the Lumi voting platform and to test your technology.
  • The ecclesiastical (open) ballot for bishop will take place during Plenary 1 which begins at 5pm on Friday, May 20. If you fail to log in before 5:00 pm, you will not be able to vote on Friday evening. You may still join the meeting.
Saturday, May 21
  • On Saturday, May 21, you must log in to the Lumi voting portal by 8:30 am to vote on the second ballot for bishop. Lumi voting login will open and close for each ballot during the day, however, we cannot predict the exact times votes will take place.
