Our Learning Center Programming is back!

In Yspaniola’s Learning Center we offer programming for our older students, but classes had to temporarily put on hold at the beginning of this academic year due to staffing issues. This February, we were able to reopen Reading Hour, our popular program which promotes a culture of reading for pleasure.

We are thrilled to announce that our Tutoring classes are also back! In March, 17 students aged 8 to 14 started attending daily one-hour sessions. During each class, students engage in different activities to work on phonics and strengthen their reading and writing skills. Committed to providing the best conditions for our students' development, they also receive a healthy lunchbox after every class.

Yspaniola teacher Mayra, who had been covering Preschool classes since the beginning of the school year, was very excited to start teaching older students again. Her passion to provide children and teenagers with the necessary tools to achieve Spanish proficiency motivates her to deliver interactive, engaging, and impactful classes for her students.

Thanks to the fantastic teaching team efforts and students' commitment, Yspaniola students are thriving in their education. Of course, none of this would be possible without you, the generous donors who make this possible. THANK YOU!

Welcome back, Leidy!

Leidy has been part of the Yspaniola family for six years. As a preschool teacher, she works hard every day to deliver fun and effective literacy programs for children aged 4 to 8. Unfortunately, ten months ago she was diagnosed with cancer and had to take a period of medical leave to receive treatment.

Today, we are beyond excited to announce that she is fully recovered and has recently rejoined our teaching team. Leidy says, "I have been longing for this moment for months and now I am delighted to be back and be able to support the preschoolers. Yspaniola's classes are often students their first experience of formal education outside of their homes, so it is a lot of responsibility for us teachers, with many challenges."

She added, "I am incredibly happy to be part of the teaching team again. I am proud to work alongside empathetic, intelligent, and innovative teachers, and my experience in this team has been rewarding and had a significant impact on my professional development."

Now Leidy is back with big dreams for Yspaniola, expanding our operations to keep building brighter futures! Stay tuned to find out how we are working towards this dream.
