Belfast Mela Participation Opportunities for Community Groups

The Belfast Mela is back with a week long programme of events from the 20 – 27 August including the spectacular festival finale at Botanic Gardens on 28 August.
 

What does it involve for my group?

  • Five free arts workshops with a professional artist to produce props and costume for the parade on 20 August 2022
  • A chance to learn new skills, meet new friends and be part of a celebration of our city’s cultural diversity
  • Free entry to the Belfast Mela at Botanic Gardens on 28 August for all parade participants

Community Foundation Northern Ireland: AXA PARKS Fund
AXA is working to make a difference in local communities through AXA PARKS – a new environmental grants programme, supporting local community projects that demonstrate a real commitment to improved outcomes for our environment and our communities’ wellbeing. The €1m project will see AXA support projects across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Grants from £3,000 to £20,000.
 
Queen's Award for Voluntary Service
Celebrating the outstanding work of local volunteer groups across the UK, the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) is the highest award given to local volunteer groups. Created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of the Queen's Coronation, it is the MBE for volunteer groups and is awarded for life.
Nomination deadline 15 September 2022.
 
UK Government: Levelling Up Fund
The Levelling Up Fund is designed to invest in infrastructure that improves everyday life across the UK. The £4.8 billion fund will support town centre and high street regeneration, local transport projects, and cultural and heritage assets. In addition to local authorities, the UK government will accept bids from a range of local applicants in NI, including but not limited to businesses, universities, voluntary and community sector organisations, district councils, the Northern Ireland Executive, and other public sector bodies. The Fund will run until 2024/25. The Department will be hosting an information webinar to promote the second round of the Levelling Up Fund on 26 April 2022 15:00-15:45. Registration is not required- the meeting on Teams can be accessed at this link 
 
Royal London Changemakers Programme 
Supporting innovative solutions that help people build financial resilience or support a transition to net zero, UK and Ireland social ventures/entrepreneurs can apply for a grant of £20,000 as well as further two-years of support and networking opportunities.

Funding to allow public bodies and community groups to purchase books and DVDs about the Christian faith, to be placed anywhere they can be borrowed and enjoyed.

A B Charitable Trust: Open Grants Programme
Grants are awarded to charities registered and working in the UK and the Trust is particularly interested in charities that work with marginalised and excluded people in society, with a focus on migrants and refugees , criminal justice and penal reform, and human rights, particularly access to justice.

Live Here Love Here: Platinum Jubilee Pollinator Garden Award
As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022, Live Here Love Here is administering an Award to a group or partnership to create a bespoke community pollinator garden as a legacy of the occasion. The Award is being wholly provided by the Department of Environment, Agriculture and Rural Affairs and managed by the Live Here Love Here programme.

Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee - Funding OPEN!
In order to ensure groups are not penalised in their normal two grant applications, Council permits an additional application only to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Applications should be submitted through one of the following categories:
Small Event Category (100% funding up to a maximum of £1,000) for events with up to 500 people in attendance (participants and attendees combined) taking place between 1 April 2022 to 31 August 2022.
N.B. Funding for the event will be reduced on a pro-rata basis if profit** exceeds £200.
Medium Event Category (75% funding up to a maximum of £2,500) for events with more than 500 but less than 2,000 people in attendance (participants and attendees combined) taking place between 1 April 2022 to 31 August 2022.
N.B. Funding for the event will be reduced on a pro-rata basis if profit** exceeds £500
Single Commemorative Piece (100% funding up to a maximum of £1000)
Consideration will be given in this category to a commemorative item in celebration or recognition of Her Majesty the Queen in her Platinum Jubilee Year. To be applied under the Small Event Category by 31 August 2022.
