Jehovah Jireh

My roommate and I are living in a small apartment in central Tucson. When we first moved in, everything was great! The neighbors were nice, everyone seemed to follow the rules of the apartment, and everything worked perfectly in our house. As time went on, the people we shared walls with began to be very loud at night causing my roommate to wake from her sleep, things started to break or work improperly and no one seemed to care how fast it was fixed, even if our safety was at risk. So we decided to move out at the end of our lease in April. As April snuck on us quickly we were unprepared to move and everywhere we wanted to move was either too expensive or got rented out the day we were supposed to tour it. It quickly became very frustrating and disheartening. As we continued to look for a place to live, we began to just want to move out to anywhere available, doesn’t matter if it is in a safe neighborhood as long as we can afford it.

One day we toured an apartment where we would probably need a bodyguard with us at all times. There was nothing safe about this place, but it was within our budget. I was ready to sign because we needed to leave! My roommate called me the next day and said, “The Lord has something better for us. He will provide.”  Wow, was I trusting that the Lord would provide for us, or was I just relying on myself to provide?

I am so quick to forget that the Lord is in control and will provide for me, I try to take things into my own hands and almost end up with something that the Lord does not want for me. But how grateful am I now that the Lord chose to stop me from doing that and speaking through my roommate. Even though we are still in our first apartment, I know that whatever the Lord has for us is worth the wait. Jehovah Jireh: the Lord will Provide.

What is something that you are not allowing the Lord to provide for in your life? Is there something you need to let go of and let God take control of?  Matthew 6:30 & 33 says, “And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?... Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.”
