NEXT CCSC BROWN BAG LECTURE IS MAY 4TH

Now featuring Bill Oemichen as speaker.

This month's topic: “Big Agricultural Data: Are Co-operatives a Solution?”

Primary production agriculture is changing rapidly due to major developments in digital “smart” technologies, or what is known as big ag data. While big ag data provides value, it also creates a set of problems and challenges, including concerns around privacy, security, data ownership, competition and market power.

In this Brown Bag event, Bill Oemichen reviews what we know about the issues surrounding big ag data and explores whether co-operatives provide a solution.

Wednesday, May 4, from 12:00 – 1:00pm. via Zoom. No charge to participate.

STAY ONE STEP AHEAD OF CYBER THREATS
Co-operators launches Cyber Guard Select cyber-insurance coverage for business.

In our connected world, cyber breaches pose a threat to businesses of all sizes.

Organizations that handle or store personal data – belonging to customers, employees and/or business associates – within a digital medium must be extra vigilant. All it takes is one misplaced laptop or one click on a malicious email for unauthorized users to gain access to private or sensitive information.

More than disrupting day-to-day operations, a cyber breach can jeopardize the hard-earned reputation of the entire business.

Cyber Guard is included with many business insurance policies from Co-operators and has a menu of basic and optional protections. Learn MORE.

CELEBRATING EARTH DAY 2022

Investing in the planet.

Many Saskatchewan co-ops and credit unions celebrated Earth Day on April 22, 2022. Social media was filled with recognition and examples of how we are making our planet a more sustainable and livable place.

For example, Diamond North Credit Union tweeted about its recent spring community cleanup efforts. Access Communications Co-operative tweeted that from January to March 2022, it recycled 5,859 pounds of pure lead batteries (which is the equivalent of almost 10 round alfalfa bales), and 350 pounds of household batteries (the equivalent weight of two adult female wild boars - as demonstrated in their graphic above!!).

Here are 52 Earth Day actions and tips you can take to make a difference, every day of the year: https://www.earthday.org/earth-day-tips/

SHOUT OUTS

Celebrating SK Co-ops, CUs and Stakeholders.

These are just a few items we've come across lately -
  • Congrats to Crossroads Credit Union on the LAUNCH of Xpress, its new digital banking platform.
  • Biggar & District Credit Union is a proud sponsor of the provincial bowling champions from the Biggar/Rosetown areas. The team is representing Saskatchewan at the Bowling Interprovincial Championships in Kewlona/Vernon BC. The credit union is also a sponsor of the Perdue Junior Steer and Heifer Jackpot Show.
  • The International Centre for Co-operative Management offers part-time, online degrees in co-operative and credit union Management. Interested in learning more? Head to Saint Mary’s University’s WEBSITE and check out your options.
  • Does your co-op or credit union use a DOT COOP domain? Why or why not? Take two minutes and participate in a quick STUDY to better understand how co-ops use and view the .coop domain.
  • It’s National Volunteer Week. We’re celebrating the co-op and credit union sector volunteers who work hard and make our communities stronger and more resilient. Tag us in your social media posts to let us know how you have recognized your volunteers.
  • In anticipation of International Workers’ Day (sometimes called May Day) on Sunday, May 1st, we wondered many worker co-ops are in Saskatchewan? (Click HERE to find out.)
