It’s hard to believe, but Copmanthorpe Carnival has been going strong for 53 years now.

Sadly, due to the pandemic, we were unable to add another two years to this impressive figure.

In light of this, the committee is determined to deliver a carnival this year that provides a fantastic day for all and represents the values and interests of everyone who comes - young and old. Our focus for 2022 has been to retain the best elements of past carnivals whilst adding new features and improvements that we believe will enhance everyone’s enjoyment on the day.

The carnival is now as famous for its music as for the many other attractions that make up the day, and this year is no exception. There are a wide range of fantastic bands and dance troupes performing throughout the day for people to enjoy. As always, we have a wide variety of stalls from commercial businesses, charities, and village community organisations so there is bound to be something interesting for everyone. We urge people to support them all – in the current climate, local businesses, charities, and village organisations need all the funds they can raise.

Families will be pleased to see some familiar attractions making a welcome return this year, including the traditional games, fairground, bungee trampolines, Professor Dan, and Vikings. In addition, this year we also have Speedkix bringing their football, Nerf and zorbing attractions.

We know that food and drink are an integral part of a great family day out so we’ve ensured a wide range of vendors will be on site – from ice cream to burgers, there’s plenty to go at – including vegetarian options. Similarly, we’ll have a good selection of drinks options with an improved outdoor sports bar and the welcome return of the Pimm’s bar, amongst others.

Tickets

With the cost-of-living crisis impacting families, we’ve kept admission prices low. Advance tickets are just £5 (online tickets are subject to a small surcharge) and on the gate admission is £8 for adults and £5 for 14–16-year-olds (proof of age & ID required). As always, children under 14 get in free. Six hours of non-stop entertainment for the whole family at these prices represents tremendous value for money.

Throughout the week leading up to carnival day we’re hosting several events which, as well as providing more quality entertainment, also help raise funds to support the carnival itself:

  • Tues 28th June - Fri 1st July: Art Exhibition at Copmanthorpe Methodist Church - admission is free
  • Fri 24th June - Kids disco (£4) - Reception – Year 2 and then Years 3-6
  • Tues 28th June - Jazz evening with Snake Davis and his five-piece band (£15)
  • Weds 29th June - Wine Tasting evening (£18, adults only)
  • Thurs 30th June - Comedy night (£12) with Steve Royle, Tom Wrigglesworth, David Eagle and MC, Alex Boardman.
