Roe v Wade Leak Response: On Monday, Politico leaked a draft Supreme Court opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson. If the draft stands as written, it will be extremely dangerous for women, disabled people, and all LGBTQ+ people, including queer and many non-binary people and transgender men, who need access to reproductive health care. The impact on LGBTQ+ rights could be detrimental given that two landmark cases for the LGBTQ+ Community, Lawrence v. Texas and Obergefell v Hodges, were referenced in this leaked opinion.
Equally disturbing is that power to regulate abortions would go to the states, which would allow states to ban or severely limit abortion upon the overturn of the Federal ban on abortion restrictions. This would be the first time in the nation's history where an established constitutional right is taken away. In light of this news, Equality North Carolina has shared an article about what this leaked opinion means and what we can do to support our LGBTQ+ North Carolinians against the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
