Dear <<First Name>>,
May's fast for peace arrives on Sunday, and you're invited to share the experience with people around the US and the world. The fast is simple - abstain from food and just drink water for whatever 24 hours works best for you. If you'd like to add your pledge, you can do so at: surveymonkey.com/r/6CXZDFH
This week in 1933, Gandhi was on a 21-day fast; since doctors didn't expect him to live through it, he had been released from prison on the first day. Although in his 60s, he sailed through the 21 days, and cheerfully ended the fast on May 29. Gandhi explained that the fast was for self-purification, not directed toward anyone in particular or for any cause.
Afterward, he refocused his energy toward opposing discrimination against so-called "untouchables." One of the ways he drew attention to the injustice was by drawing water from their "separate but equal" wells as he traveled around India.
Clean water continues to be a problem for many people around the world, and May's #fastforpeace charity is a non-profit that has funded over 90,000 projects worldwide to bring clean, safe drinking water to people in developing countries - Charity: water. Their operating expenses are covered by private donors, so 100% of donations goes to providing clean water. You can donate to May’s #fastforpeace charity on their website: charitywater.org
And once again, we'll be holding a Zoom social from 8-8:30 ET on the 15th. Meeting ID: 886 7983 3914 Passcode: 089525
Hope to see you there. Happy fasting!
Yours in peace,
Brian
