Worship This Week
Worship Series:
The Unexpected Acts of God

Sunday, May 15, 2022
Texts: Acts 11:1-18 Peter’s Report to the Jerusalem Church
Fifth Sunday of Easter

An Unexpected Change of Menu
During the Great Fifty Days (AKA the Season of Easter), we will read through stories of the early “People of the Way” from the Book of Acts. The resurrection sets off a host of surprising events and changes for Jesus’ followers, even changes within themselves.

This week we read the story of Peter who gets called before the council in Jerusalem to explain why he had gone to Gentiles and eaten with them (which would have bee a potential threat to his covenant relations with God and other pious Jews). Peter tells them the vision he had that led him to the house of Cornelius, a centurion of the Italian Cohort, where he not only ate with Cornelius, Peter baptized Cornelius and his entire household.

ON SITE WORSHIP & MASKING GUIDELINES
The Session of First Presbyterian Church has made decisions regarding gathering and masking in accordance with CDC guidelines.

On February 25, the CDC relaxed its guidelines for wearing masks indoors for many parts of the country. A new metric, Community Levels, takes into consideration whether or not local hospitals are under strain from COVID-19. In counties where the level is Low or Medium, wearing a mask is optional. Linn County is currently at Low Community Level as determined by the CDC. Therefore, the wearing of masks at church is now OPTIONAL. KN95 masks for adults, youth and children are provided by the church for anyone who prefers to wear one.
