Greetings From the Assistant Principal

SHPA Families,

This week's Fun Run and Color Run were fantastic. The students, parents, and staff enjoyed the celebration the races provided and we were able to surpass our goal of raising over $60,000 for our school community! We appreciate all of the efforts parents, students, staff, and the SHPA PTA put forth to provide such a wonderful event and generous gift.

I wish to invite you to our upcoming middle school theater production of Café Murder on May 26th. Doors will open at 7pm. This is one small way to celebrate the wonderful arts education our scholars receive at Seven Hills. The students have been working hard to prepare for what proves to be the best play of the season.

Finally, we have worked hard to prepare our 8th graders for the next stage in their academic careers. These fine scholars have shown great persistence, grit, and determination over the past few years and managed a very different middle school experience. Our 8th grade commencement ceremony will take place on June 8th from 6-8pm in the Richfield Campus gymnasium.

Enjoy the day,
Ryan Grutsch

Board Members:

We would like to express our gratitude for the hard work and dedication our Board members give to SHPA. We are excited to welcome the newest Board members to their new roles and are particularly appreciative of those members completing their service on the Board. Ms. Martine Walker, Ms. Leah Lellman, and Ms. Janeen Raaen have served our community well
and have always put the needs of our students first. Leah and Janeen started with us on the Beacon Preparatory School Board and worked with us to merge our schools, establish a second campus, and replicate our k-5 programming in Richfield. We all can appreciate the added pressure and difficulty Covid-19 has placed on Board level decisions over the course of the last term. We are grateful for your efforts and wish you luck in your next adventure.

School Board Election Announcement: We are grateful for all of the strong candidates nominated for the school board, and we congratulate the following who were elected: Mr. Chris Lamprecht (New Teacher Board Member), Ms Kendra Hartranft (New Parent Board Member), and Mr. Michael Meyer (Returning Community Board Member). We appreciate their willingness to serve in this important volunteer capacity, and we look forward to the experiences, perspectives, and skills they will bring to their positions in support of the continued growth and success of this great school!

Annual SHPA Parent/Guardian Survey: We encourage you to take about 15-20  minutes to reflect upon and complete the annual SHPA Parent/Guardian Survey, which includes both Spanish and English versions linked below. We use the results from this survey to measure our performance and assess the quality of our curriculum, instruction, and programming. Your anonymous, constructive feedback is important for us to understand what is going well and what may need to be improved, both overall and across campuses with respect to our elementary and middle school programs. Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this survey--we appreciate it and look forward to celebrating our strengths and identifying areas for potential growth!

2022-2023 Enrollment: As we are eagerly preparing for our 22-23 school year, and as we do at this time every year, we are asking for your assistance.
  • If your SHPA student(s) will continue their educational journey with us for the 2022-2023 school year, there is nothing further for you to do. This does include our current SHPA 5th graders (at both campuses) who will be joining us for 6th grade at the Richfield Campus. All of these returning students automatically have a spot in their forthcoming grade and we look forward to seeing all of you back at SHPA next school year!
  • IF your SHPA student(s) will not be continuing their educational journey with us for the 2022-2023 school year, we will need you to fill out a Student Withdrawal Form HERE. Please return a completed withdrawal form to your respective Enrollment Coordinator no later than Wednesday, May 25, 2021.
    • For grades Kindergarten through Fifth (Richfield and Bloomington):  Ms. Leslie Rimstad at 612-314-7603 or lrimstad@shpamn.org
    • For grades Sixth through Eighth:  Mr. Tou Thao at 612-314-7604 or tthao@shpamn.org

June Lunch/Breakfast Menu: The June lunch/breakfast menu is now available on the "Lunch" page of the school website HERE.

COVID-19 Update: We have been experiencing a ripple in positive cases recently, so please remember to symptom-screen your child(ren) before school and self-test at home for free if you are experiencing symptoms. For additional COVID-19 information, please continue to visit our COVID-19 webpage where you will find various resources and links including health-screening, testing options, and reduced isolation guidelines under the planning and resources tabs. Thank you for continuing to help keep our students and staff healthy and learning and working in school.

SHPA Cookbook: Seven Hills Preparatory Academy is excited to be putting together a cookbook for our families. We would love to include family recipes, cultural recipes, or recipes that have been passed through your generations! If you would like to submit a recipe, please use the following link to do so:

You may also email swillman@shpamn.org if you have any questions or would like to submit your recipe via email. We are excited for this opportunity!

Help Build Our Libraries: We are excited to announce an opportunity for you to help our libraries grow!  We have 2 libraries at the Richfield Campus: an Elementary and a Middle School Library. When we first opened, we gratefully received hundreds of donated books to help us fill our shelves. We have now reached a point where we have a great base of books and are strategically building the collections largely from student requests and new releases. The kids love requesting their favorite books and new releases that they are excited to read. They flock to the new book displays and ask weekly if their requested books have arrived. Now we are inviting you to be part of that process by donating the specific books that our students are eager to read. We keep running request lists on Amazon. You can buy them there or you can get them from your favorite, local bookstore. We love being part of fostering your student’s love of reading and are happy to offer this opportunity to support our libraries. Thank you!

Nystrom & Associates School-Based Therapy: School-Based therapy is a convenient way to provide mental health therapy to students. It removes barriers such as transportation and scheduling difficulties which often stands in the way of students receiving therapy. It also allows for students to work with therapists directly in the environment in which they often struggle the most; in school. Our therapists can provide individual therapy, assessments and referrals for additional services. In addition, there is the possibility of seeing the child and the family outside of regular school hours.
If you have any questions about School-Based Therapy at Seven Hills Prep Academy, please contact  School counselors: Brittany Keating
brkeating@shpamn.org or Mende Symington msymington@shpamn.org at the Richfield Campus or Karissa Larson klarson@shpamn.org at the Bloomington Campus.

School Website: Please use our current website,
www.sevenhillspreparatoryacademy.org to read about many aspects of our school life, including schedules, events, and updates. This is the most important resource for our community. Our goal is to keep open, consistent and detailed communication with everyone and we update the website information regularly.

Elementary School News

Several students from the fifth grade gifted and talented math class were among the approximately 100,000 students worldwide to participate this year in the Math Olympiad program.  They participated in a series of five monthly contests. The contests challenged the students to solve unusual and difficult problems and to think creatively.

The students responded well and were recognized with certificates for their participation.  The silver pin is awarded to students in the top 10%, including Simeon Aurand. The embroidered felt patch is awarded to those individuals in the top 50% of all the participants, including the following students: Simeon Aurand, Eliot Barry, Liam Mongin, Sam Conrad, Yangkey Keyshong, Grace Krippner, and Serena Miller. Finally, a trophy was awarded to Simeon for receiving the
highest score from our school.
