Loreto Highlights Update - 13th May 2022

May Is The Month Of Mary

At Loreto Convent, we dedicate the whole month of May to celebrating and honouring Mary, the mother of Jesus. Each class prepares a May altar and Mary is given a special spot in the classroom. Children enjoy bringing beautiful flowers for their altars during May.

Being part of a netball team is one of the best things in the world and everyone loves it. When we won, it was the best feeling ever and everyone got a gold medal. We are all immensely proud of winning and we hope we will win again next year.

Era Cultura
Year 4 ventured out to Era in Chiclana as part of our History Topic.  We learnt about pre-history and the Neanderthal Man.  The pupils learnt skills used millions of years ago such as starting a fire, using a bow and arrow or a spear to hunt.  They also tried Tribal dance and pottery.  In addition to this, we were allowed to visit and feed their farm animals.  It was a fantastic day trip enjoyed by all.
FHC - Classes 3R & 3G
This week was a very special week for some children in Year 3 who received the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time.
During their Religion lessons the communicants were taught about the Consecration and the importance of living like Jesus.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit and the action of the Priest Jesus becomes truly present under the form of bread and wine.
We still see the bread and wine, but we believe this is Jesus. The children read beautifully in the Service and made their parents and teachers very proud.

House Planters
Our Gardening Crew are onto their next project - recycling lorry pallets into herb planters, one for each of the four school houses.  They will then be used to grow herbs throughout the year with house monitors looking after each planter.
Faith Diary
These week’s Gospel speaks to us of Love. We all give and receive many different types of love in our lives, to our parents, siblings, spouses, children, friends - to all those people who make our lives rich and fulfilling, but in only a very few of those relationships are we likely to give and receive the kind of Love John speaks of here. Real, transforming, giving and forgiving Love, that ‘gives and doesn’t count the cost‘ and seeks always the other’s good, not our own. This is the kind of Love that Jesus offers, and expects from, each one of us, the kind of Love that if it were truly felt and put into practise by us all, would transform not only our individual lives, but the whole world.
My Experience At Young Shakespeare
It was a very exciting experience because it made me feel like I was one of the actors. I enjoyed it very much and the two male actors made it very funny and entertaining. I also loved the fact it had different genres such as: drama, comedy, romance, tragedy and so on. All in all, it was a very enjoyable and wonderful experience for us all.
Jacobo Hernandez Corcoles Yr. 6. Ms Lombard

When I got to the Shakespeare play, I felt happy. It was such a wonderful experience to be outside the classroom and in a theatre. When the show started, we were all in stitches as the actors were making us laugh. The play (Romeo and Juliet) was set-in modern-day Britain, and it had a funny side to it. In the end it was very sad because Romeo and Juliet died.
Dexter Murphy Yr. 6 Ms Lombard

My time at young Shakespeare was very enjoyable. The lovely people at Young Shakespeare first told us about Shakespeare and then preformed Romeo and Juliet very nicely for us. The play was very funny and quite informative for us. They also avoided any graphic violence such as when Juliet killed herself, they made it obvious she had just put the knife under her armpit. I thought it was a great play.

Life Cycles
As part of our topic on Life Cycles, Foundation Stage 2 have been learning about the life cycle of the butterfly. They had great fun creating these beautiful symmetrical butterflies.
New School Records!
Congratulations to Martin who broke the Y5 Boys High Jump record this week. The record was 1.18m (held by Tom Newing 2019) and Martin cleared 1.19m!
Another School Athletics Record was broken this week. Daniel broke the Year 6 Boys Shot Put record, throwing the shot 7m 45cm. The previous record was 6m 91cm (held by Mateo Isola Lopez in 2015) and Daniel equalled, then bettered this record twice more, to achieve the new school record. Huge congratulations to Daniel!
