Homily from Casey Fernandez's Memorial Service earlier today

Earlier today we held a memorial service for Casey Fernandez, a longtime Diamond Heights resident who died in March. Cameron's homily from that service is posted here: https://www.staidansf.org/post/come-have-breakfast

From the Rev. Dr. Ellen Clark King: "How I Found My Voice  -- with the help of a beanbag frog"

Some of you may remember the Rev. Dr. Ellen Clark King who until recently served at Grace Cathedral -- she is now the Dean of Kings College, London. Last year she participated in a kind of reality TV project "Anyone Can Sing," in which people who have real difficulty singing learn how to, even to the point of singing in an opera. The story is incredible, and I highly recommend reading her account of her experience.

Here'a an excerpt: "When it came to the service itself, I found myself surprised by calm, accepting that I could fail again — and very publicly — but that I was open to that as a step in a continuing journey. I didn’t need to be perfect: I just needed to offer to God the best that I could and trust that it would no longer offend the ears, and impede the worship of, the congregation. So, I opened my lips and sang." Read the whole piece here:

Recipe of the Week: Hearty Chickpea & Spinach Stew

From Cary: This satisfying stew comes together in a snap. Mashed chickpeas add body to the broth, and tomato paste adds a savory note without piling on the sodium. To simplify the prep, look for chopped fresh onion and shredded carrot or a soup starter mix in the produce section.
