Request Travel Signatures on iMIT |
- *Note: You can leave the US without a travel signature; however, you will need a valid signature to re-enter (signed within the last 12 months)
-
Request new immigration form on iMIT
-
Go to "F-1 or J-1 Student Services"
-
Choose "Request Replacement Form" (Reason: Travel signature)
|
Please check your Form I-20 on Page 2 (F visa holders) or Form DS-2019 (J visa holders) on Page 1 to be sure you have a travel validation signature signed within 12 months of your planned date of return to the U.S. If you do not yet have a travel validation signature, or it will be older than 12 months, you can request in iMIT a new Form I-20/DS-2019 with travel signature. Instructions are available on the ISO “Visas and Travel” webpage.
You can leave the U.S. without a travel signature, but you will need one to re-enter the U.S. All Form I-20s will be emailed electronically to students; Form DS-2019s will be physically mailed, unless otherwise arranged with your advisor.
PLEASE NOTE: In order to issue a new Form I-20 or Form DS-2019, we will need to see the full funding amount for summer 2022 and academic year 2022-2023. Please contact your department for an updated funding letter. Further, if you are traveling outside the US, it is your responsibility to have updated funding documents at all times, and so this will reinforce the fact that you need to request an updated funding doc from your department each year. |

SSN Application Procedures Updated by SSA |
New Online Application now available |
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced the release of the Online Social Security Number Application, the first step in applying for a Social Security Number (SSN).
Individuals (including students and scholars) may begin the process online to apply for a new or replacement Social Security card. After the application is submitted online, the student/scholar must visit their local Social Security Administration Office in-person with their supporting documentation within 45 calendar days. All acceptable documents must be original or copies certified by the issuing agency, unexpired and must show name, date of birth or age.
After the SSA verifies all documents submitted in person to their office and complete their request, individuals will receive their SSN card in the mail within 14 business days.
Students should be sure to review the full SSN application process, including obtaining any required letter from the ISO, on the ISO SSN webpage. |

New F-1 CPT Information Session eCourse |
Many students were notified by email they have been enrolled in the CPT eCourse.
You are not required to take the eCourse if you're not planning to apply for CPT in the future. |
The ISO, with the helpful recommendations from students in recent years, has developed an F-1 Curricular Practical Training (CPT) Employment Information Session via a Canvas eCourse. This new delivery mode will allow for students interested in CPT to review a CPT-specific session that includes a video session with detailed written resources and review quiz.
All students who have not attended an Employment Information Session already in 2022, and are interested in requesting CPT authorization in iMIT, will first need to complete the ISO Canvas CPT eCourse.
Full information on CPT, and accessing the CPT eCourse, are available on the ISO CPT webpage.
IMPORTANT NOTE: All currently enrolled students eligible for CPT have been provided access to the ISO Canvas CPT eCourse. Students may have received an email notification about this access, but the email does not mean students are required to complete the eCourse now if you are not planning to apply for CPT authorization. We apologize for any confusion that the access email may have caused.
If any questions arise regarding employment in general, or F-1 CPT specifically, after reviewing the ISO online employment resources please feel free to contact your ISO Advisor. |

Sleep, Outdoors, Mindfulness, Exercise |
|
|
SOME is better than none |
An acronym to help you through daily stress and tough times. |
During times of uncertainty and stress, SOME activities are especially effective for caring for the body and mind: Sleep, Outdoor time, Mindfulness, and Exercise will help sustain you during tough times.
Instead of an “all-or-nothing” approach to self-care, you can choose SOMEthing from the list and do SOME of it today. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to work for you. SOME activities signal to your body and mind that you are listening to, appreciating, and taking care of yourself – because during extraordinary times, you really are doing SOMEthing extraordinary.
S is for Sleep: If you feel draggy and tired when you first wake up, turn on lights immediately and open window shades if the sun is up. Light can help suppress melatonin production (associated with sleepiness) and increase wakefulness.
O is for Outdoors: Sensory Walking: This adaptation for the walking meditation is simple, and just involves really tuning into our five senses as we move through space. As we get into the moment with our senses, we can really savor the precious moments we do have to be outside and moving, and all that is around us. Our senses keep us grounded in the moment while our thoughts drift to the past or future. Keep your eyes still, focus on the soles of your feet, focus on sounds, and focus on smells and tastes in the air.
-Dr. Chris Willard
M is for Mindfulness: Try listening mindfully when your friends speak. Instead of planning what to say next, take a deep breath, stay present, and give them your full attention. Attention is the greatest gift you could give!
E is for Exercise: Fit a workout in doing every day tasks! Increase your leg strength by doing squats instead of bending at the waist while picking up your house. As you walk up the stairs, try doing calf raises. Run alongside your kids when they are playing outside to get some cardio in. Making little changes like these could add up to about 60 minutes of exercise a day. |
