Below is an update from our Lobbyist on what's been happening in the Conference Committees. The latest environment omnibus bill has 207 sections in that bill and the House and Senate agree on 14% of what is in the bill. 84% comes into the bill from just one of the sides (House or Senate). The remaining 2% represents sections of the bill that talk about the same issue but use different language. Our levy bill is not in any of the omnibus bills. There will be more updates coming.
2022 RED RIVER BASIN FLOOD INFORMATION
Last week the RRWMB conducted a flight of the Red River Basin (RRB) to determine the extent of current flooding. Attached is a document illustrating flooding in the RRB and at some point, there will be a formal report to document the 2022 flood. The RRWMB is requesting $47 million this session from the MN Legislature to construct several flood impoundments, protect a city, and to assist with flood buyouts. Thus far, the RRWMB, its membership, the State of Minnesota, and the federal government has invested $48 million into these projects. If funded this session, RRWMB membership will be able to get these projects to the finish line and approximately 100,000 acre-feet of additional water storage will be constructed.
