More than 350 plates of breakfast were served at the Creston neighborhood Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, May 14th! The sun was shining, pancakes were flippin', and good times connecting with neighbors were had. The breakfast took place outdoors on the property of the iconic Vander Jagt mansion at 2615 Plainfield Ave NE. The homeowners, Max & Tammy, provided first-level home tours to highlight the progress of their home restoration and share their plans for the property. (Keep up with the Vander Jagt Facebook page to follow their progress!) Many guests arrived by bicycle while a trolley shuttled in attendees along the beautiful tree-lined Foster Ave. Yard games and kids craft activities kept guests entertained and a slew of community partners provided valuable information and resources to the community. It truly was a great time reconnecting with familiar faces and welcoming new friends to our neighborhood.

CNA would like to give a huge THANK YOU to the attendees, planning committee, volunteers, community partners, and sponsors who made this event possible.

The Grand Rapids Neighborhood Summit is a free day-long learning experience centered around supporting resident voice and building racial equity. All residents of Grand Rapids are invited to come learn, strategize, and connect so that we can strengthen our neighborhoods to make Grand Rapids a more equitable place for all to live, work, and play.

This year’s theme is “Building Equitable and Healthy Communities.”

PARTICIPATORY BUDGETING IDEA SUBMISSION DEADLINE: MAY 31

Participatory Budgeting ("PB") is a brand-new activity in Grand Rapids, but other cities have successfully been using the PB process for many years. The City of Grand Rapids is asking residents to decide how to spend $2 million of Federal Covid recovery money from the American Rescue Plan Act on meaningful projects for the community. Ward 2 (which includes Creston) has been allocated $400,000 to spend. All projects must cost at least $50,000 and meet certain requirements as outlined by federal mandates.

More than 150 ideas have been submitted so far! The deadline to submit ideas is May 31. Over the summer, the PB Committee will review and refine project details. In September, public voting will take place. Anyone over age 13 can submit ideas and vote.
