Success in School: 2-day workshop 8/9 August 2022

Registrations are NOW OPEN for our next course.  This will be held ONLINE again following the extremely positive feedback from March 2022.  This is a 2-day workshop for SENCO's, teachers, teacher aides, Outreach teachers, parents and anyone involved in educating our young people with Down syndrome, and others with different learning styles.  It is mainly attended by Primary schools, and we would really love to see more parents and carers attending.

The price for professionals is $300 per person.  We are pleased to offer a fantastic price of $100 per person for parents and carers of people with Down syndrome who are members of NZDSA or ADSA.  Please note: presentations will not be recorded – so you must attend at the designated time.

The line-up of presenters is second to none - with many well-known professionals who are highly dedicated to our young learners.  Inclusion - Dr Jude MacArthur| Learning Profile of Students with Down Syndrome - Kirsten McDonald| Behaviour - Arul Hamill| Friendships - Fehm Hussain| Numeracy - Dr Rhonda Faragher & Margi Leech| Literacy - Dr Sally Clendon| Using Visuals - Fiona Kenworthy| Collaboration for Success - IEPs - Andrea Smart (MoE).  As well as this you will hear from 3 adults with Down syndrome about their school experiences, and what they are doing now.

The presentations are professional, well researched, and full of practical tips and tricks.  The Down Syndrome International Education guidelines are also incorporated.

Please contact Paula (clo@adsa.org.nz) or 09 527 0060 if you would like help to contact your school.  Or download Success in School Flyer.  You can then email or print for your school.  And you can register online here.  Success in School Registration Form

Recreate NZ: ADSA Social Clubs

A reminder that our Junior (11-17) and Senior (18+) social clubs are fully up and running again – and Annabelle is doing a great job getting to know those who have attended.  Our covid policies operate in line with Recreate NZ for these events and this now means that you no longer have to be vaccinated to attend.  Unvaccinated participants will need to provide a negative RAT or PRC result no more than 48 hours before the event.  RSVPs have closed for the May event – but please keep a look out for info on the June 2022 event.

If you have NOT joined social club before – you can see the calendars and register at this link.  https://adsa.org.nz/how-we-help/local-support-groups/social-clubs/.  If you were a member in 2021 – but haven’t returned yet – please contact Annabelle at Recreate (annabelle@recreate.org.nz).
Please email Xuan on adminsupport@adsa.org.nz or Paula on clo@adsa.org.nz if you have any questions regarding the events and news highlighted in this update.
