News & Notes

Greetings UVCB,

Summer is HERE.   (See the next note for details about full-size summer music).

Our first performance date is May 29th in Norwich, participating in the Memorial Day observances of the Lyman F. Pell Post 8 (VFW) starting at noon. The solemn observance will take place in front of the monuments at Tracy Hall, with our Band in readiness in the Norwichgazebo on the green.  The observance itself will most likely only take about 15 minutes or so and at the conclusion, after Taps is played, we'll play the National Anthem. Their celebration will then move to the green for apicnic, during which we will play the military service marches and other appropriate music for about 45 minutes.

Next month we expect to participate in the Woodstock Alumni Parade (June 11) followed by the Springfield HS Parade (June 18).  We’ll be using our trailer for at least one of these events.  July will see events in Canaan, Lebanon, and Enfield at the Shaker Museum (currently noted on their website).  Details of these performance dates will be posted on our UVCB website when they are confirmed.

Thank you all for your efforts to keep yourself and those around you well during our ongoing Covid stress.  UVCB Covid policies are summarized at the bottom of this note.

Music parts

Here is a link to the Google Drive folder containing parts for the music we're currently rehearsing.  This folder includes a subfolder identified as “PARADE MUSIC” (for full-size copies of our summer music) and a second subfolder, “November 2021 parts,” containing scores for the other music we’ve been working on.  (The West Side Story cornet parts are in the "West Side Story medley" folder within the "November 2021 parts" folder.)

If you do not already have parts for music we rehearse, we invite you to download and print the relevant music from these websites.  If you need parts but are unable to obtain them from this site, please email our Music Librarian, Jane Sachs, at jsachsnh@gmail.com well in advance of our rehearsal time so that she can prepare copies to provide at rehearsal.  Thank you all; these steps minimize rehearsal time devoted to distribution of parts.

UVCB Covid policies

CDC currently grades risk of Covid transmission in our surrounding counties as “High.”

Proof of vaccination against Covid (i.e., basic series plus booster unless unable to do so by virtue of timing) continues to be required to participate in any in-person UVCB event.  Members may demonstrate proof by emailing a copy of the CDC card to mark.nunlist@dartmouth.edu or texting that image to himat 603-448-7901.  At the Board’s direction, Mark Nunlistcontinues to maintain a confidential record of members’ vaccination status.

There will be occasions when a UVCB member tests Covid-positive.  When this occurs or the Band member believes he or she has been exposed to a Covid-positive individual elsewhere, we ask that the individual notify Mark Nelson and Mark Nunlist. We can then inform other Band members who might have been exposed themselves by virtue of proximity, enabling them to test / monitor themselves.

A member who tests Covid-positive is welcome to return to in-person UVCB events following completion of the recommended five-day isolation period plus a further five days of mask-wearing around other people and has obtained a negative Covid antigen test (e.g., an “at-home” Covid test). Band members occasionally announce that they plan to miss an upcoming rehearsal because they don’t feel well.  We applaud that concern for one another.  Please excuse yourself if you have any symptoms of illness, regardless of any test result, and seek medical care and / or covid testing as appropriate.

Of course, the individual’s own healthcare is of paramount importance, and we encourage members to seek - and be guided by - appropriate medical advice.

Thank you all and stay well,

Mark Nunlist

UVCB Uniforms

Exciting times!  UVCB's 2022 season premiere is two weeks from now:  Sunday, May 29, at noon in Norwich for a Memorial Day concert.  It's a somber holiday as we remember and honor those who have given so much in defense of our country.  We'll be looking our best in our UVCB uniforms:  navy blue polo shirts with UVCB logo, and khaki slacks/skirts/shorts.  We have shirts on order for the following band members: Lee Diego, Dominick DeFrancesco, Ford von Reyn, Laura Frazer, Jeff Gill, Jordan Engel, Laura Rubinson, Toey Rattanaporn, Marilyn Hill and Vicki Moore.  If you need a shirt and your name's not listed here, please let me know by email today.
The polos are available in both men's and ladies' sizes S,M,L,XL,XXL,XXXL.  Please specify your preference.  We can also get logo sweatshirts in unisex sizes S,M,L,XL,XXL,XXXL.  Please let me know if you'd like one of these.  All of these have been $26 each but might have a modest increase since it's been a couple years since we've ordered them.
