Rediscover Peterhead - Second Term Renewal Ballot and Leadership Change

Rediscover Peterhead is approaching 4.5 years of operating as a Business Improvement District and the board has announced its intention to seek a second term with a vote of the qualifying town centre levy payers taking place on 29 September 2022.  Rediscover Peterhead was voted into existence in 2017.

Rediscover Peterhead successfully launched The Peterhead Seafood Festival in 2018 & 2019.  In November 2020 The Peterhead Producers' Market was introduced to the town centre with the aim of generating additional footfall in the town centre. Peterhead Producers' Market has gone from strength to strength and is now a regular town centre event on the first Saturday of every month.

CCTV has also been another major investment in town centre safety and is proving a very effective tool in reducing crime and assisting Police Scotland to gather valuable evidence where a crime has been committed.

The Rediscover Peterhead Board have already embarked on a consultation with the local businesses to develop its plans for the next five-year term.

Chair, John Pascoe, commented, "We have achieved a lot in our first term but there is still lots more work to be done to build on this platform for the future.  Rediscover Peterhead hopes to put a renewed focus on creating a distinctive brand for Peterhead Town Centre to ensure the town centre is promoted in an interesting and consistent manner.  Rediscover Peterhead will continue the annual deep cleaning but will also look towards introducing more floral enhancements which has been highlighted as a priority by local business."

Alongside the announcement of a renewal ballot, Rediscover Peterhead is delighted to announce the appointment of a new manager, Linda Hendry, who will be starting her new role on 16 May.  Linda has a background in administration and project work, as well as overseeing the funding of many exciting town centre projects.  Linda commented, "I can't wait to start in this exciting role.  I really look forward to working closely with the town centre businesses to help them create a vibrant place to do business that is attractive to local residents and also attracts people to visit the town centre to see for themselves the great things that Peterhead has to offer."

Linda is taking over from Leslie Forsyth, who has been in the role for almost three years.  John Pascoe commented, "we would like to thank Leslie for steering the organisation through what has been a challenging environment in the context of the pandemic, and we wish Leslie well for the future".
