The Impact of COVID-19 on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights:
Youth-led Perspectives and Solutions for a Gender-Equal World

A virtual launch event to unveil a first-of-its-kind study highlighting the experiences, insights, and perspectives of adolescents and youth on the gendered impact of COVID-19 on SRHR.

Wednesday, 18 May 2022
8:30 to 10:00 am
EDT / 2:30 to 4:00 pm CEST / 8:30 to 10:00 pm GMT+8

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on girls and women, in all their intersecting identities, and has exposed and exacerbated gender inequalities worldwide, critically undermining progress across every measure of development, including safeguarding sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). How do we move forward to ensure that progress made on gender equality and toward realizing SRHR is not lost?

Led and conceptualized by youth advocates, this event will center Women Deliver’s recent research exploring the effects of the pandemic on access to SRHR services, information, and products in low- and middle-income countries, with a particular focus on India, Kenya, and Nigeria. This study is one of the first of its kind to directly highlight the first-hand experiences, insights, and perspectives of adolescents and youth on the gendered impact of COVID-19 on SRHR. Youth advocates were engaged in all phases of this research: design, data collection and provision, the validation of findings, and policy recommendation formulation.

This event will feature a multi-stakeholder, intergenerational discussion on global and country-level perspectives on the research’s key findings and policy recommendations. We are excited to hear from:

Barbara Warui Nyaga (she/her), Director of the Standing Committee for Sexual and Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS 2021/2025, International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA)
