Welcome to our May newsletter

Thank you so much to all our mentors for completing our annual feedback surveys, and also for encouraging so many of our young people to complete these as well. It is so important for us to listen to you and your mentees, to make mentoring the best experience possible for all our mentoring pairs.

So how did we do?!
Exams are now underway and our Mentors are continuing to support our young people with strategies to manage exam stress.

With so much emphasis from school on study and revision skills, its important to remember some simple actions to help students relax.

We asked a Year 10 student from Carshalton High School for Girls, who has been doing work experience at Volunteer Centre Sutton, for her best tips. This might be something nice for mentors to share with their mentees.

Celebrating the Jubilee

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee is less than 4 weeks away and there is lots going on in Sutton to mark the occasion, which may provide some inspiration for some activities for our mentoring pairs.

As part of a national event, the Mayor of Sutton will be lighting Jubilee beacons in St Helier Open Space and Cheam Park on Thursday 2 June.

Readers of all ages are being encouraged to take part in The Big Jubilee Read, celebrating great reads from celebrated authors from across the Commonwealth with ten books from each decade. The full list can be found here.
Our next round of training will be on Saturday 16th July 2022. If you would like to register an expression of interest in training as a volunteer MAPS Mentor, please email maps@vcsutton.org.uk

If you know anyone else who might be interested please pass this information on to them.

We are particularly keen to recruit more male volunteers, for balance amongst our mentor numbers, but, as always, we'd be delighted to hear from anyone who is interested in becoming a mentor.
And finally, just a reminder from our previous newsletter that we will be updating our systems during the summer so there will be a 2-week closure of MAPS with no mentoring taking place from Mon 27th June - Friday 8th July, inclusive.

Thanks for reading!
