7 Forms of Respect,
by Dr. Julie Pham

Returning to work -whether it's after a break, or returning to an office - includes determining what new corporate cultural norms look like. But how do you figure that out?

Our friend and Hangout Habits alum Dr. Julie Pham's "7 Forms of Respect" navigates the ambiguity of what it means to respect others. She offers thought-provoking questions and exercises that will transform your communication and relationships with the people you work with in lasting and surprising ways.

Be sure to attend her in person event at the Seattle Central Library, with the option to view the livestream from home. It is presented in partnership with The Seattle Public Library Foundation.

WSJ: Women's Soccer Gets Equal Pay in Landmark Decision

While gender pay disparities continue, there's great news in a high profile case. The US Women's Soccer National Team, in a landmark collective bargaining agreement, will receive the same game bonuses and World Cup prize money as their male peers, creating identical economic terms for both men's and women's teams. Female sport professionals have been historically underpaid: we hope this new standard starts a domino effect across industries.

Higher-paid workers are increasingly quitting their jobs, as the Great Resignation — also known as the Great Reshuffle — enters its second year. While early pandemic departures were led by younger, less-tenured workers in low-paying industries like retail, food service, and health care, current quit rates come from older, more tenured workers in higher-paid industries like finance, tech, and other knowledge worker fields, searching for less tangible benefits like meaning and flexibility.

9 to 2, then 7 to 10: Productivity's "Third Peak"

With 10 percent of Americans still working from home and some businesses embracing remote work permanently, companies are scrambling to adjust to a new understanding of working hours. Emma Goldberg reports how the more scattered approach to work scheduling has created enormous upsides for parents, along with some new sources of stress, with some examples laying out the pros and cons. Javier Hernandez, a researcher in Microsoft’s human understanding and empathy group, notes “There’s the opportunity for flexibility. There’s also the opportunity to make us miserable.”
