What Happened to the Hub Website PD Calendar?

We chose to display our PD sessions in a Google Doc this May and June because we were switching over to our brand new website.

We are re-adding sessions to our new website calendar but have disabled the registration form for now.

Use the Zoom links in the Google Doc to join sessions (or drop-in to the Hub Classroom if a session is in-person).

New Menu
Thanks to your feedback, we've restructured the menu to help make it easier to locate content:
  • Resources: contains information about course preparation, delivery, assessments, accessibility, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).
  • Technologies: contains information about tools (Moodle, Zoom, eGrades, Clockwork), and pilots (Grammarly, Riipen).
  • PD / Events: contains our events calendar, newsletter, blog, Level Up, podcast episodes, and external PD opportunities.
  • New Faculty: contains all the information that new full-time and contract faculty need to get up and running, including orientation.
  • About: contains information about the Hub and our Teaching and Learning Framework.
  • Contact: contains contact information for the Hub team.
In addition to the menu, we've made our website WCAG AA and AAA accessible with updated content.

There may still be some "bugs" to work out so please contact us via email if you spot anything that needs to be fixed or updated.

Diving Into Accessibility: Contrast

Reviewing content for accessibility can become overwhelming, and finding a place to start can be challenging. We can begin our journey by breaking down the process into smaller digestible tasks. A great start is to review contrast:
  • Reviewing the contrast ratio between text colours and background colours is a simple, fun way to dive into creating accessible content.
  • There are many free online tools such as this contrast checker that can help you review your content’s contrast.
  • The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) outline a minimum contrast ratio for accessibility.
  • Check out this YouTube video to help get you started!

Now's a great time to take a look at the course descriptions on your course outlines.
  • Are your course descriptions written using active verbs and active language?
  • Are they accurate and concise?
  • Are they inviting? Would you want to take the course?
Check out Course Outline Development in the ATB in Moodle (self-enrol). This brand new series of modules go over the requirements and recommended practices when developing your course outlines. It's a handy refresher if you are experienced and a valuable overview if you are new.
