Meetings for Worship

On Sunday mornings, we gather in a "blended" meeting at 10 am, in the meeting house and on Zoom.  For those attending virtually,  here is the Zoom link for Sunday worship and second hours.  Please scroll down to the box below, titled "How we Worship." for details about the blended meeting, about outdoor meetings at 8:45 and 10:00 am on Sundays, and about Sunday evening and mid-week meetings.

The Nursery opens from 10 a.m. to 11:30 for ages 0 through kindergarten.  First Day classes for elementary school age children meet from 10:20 to 11:20 the first 3 Sundays of the month.  Here is more information on First Day School and the full roster of classes and teachers.

Coming Right Up This Weekend

Memorial Meeting for Mosi on May 14 at 2 pm

Well, it's gonna rain. Mosi's laughing.  "Come anyway," she says. Who could miss the opportunity to hear a tribute from a requested gospel choir, memories shared by all of us, encouragement as we go forward in this muddled world?  And we'll all sing Mosi out with a song she specially requested, led by Singing Quaker Women and Other Faithful Friends. If you can't be there, we're setting up a way for you to listen to the event through an audio only link.  Please register with Ruth Flower, so we can send you the link when we get it.

On the day of it all, there will be parking nearby at the "Mother Jones" elementary school. From Metzerott Road, turn south on 24th Avenue, go one block past Apache Road until you come to a school parking lot.  You're there. (Here's a map.)  If you have passengers to drop off, pull into 23d Avenue - we'll have some spaces reserved for drop-offs on the side next to the meeting house -- and steady hands to accompany anyone who feels unsteady on uneven ground.  The meeting's parking lot will be reserved for Mosi's family and for people with more serious mobility challenges.  If you haven't volunteered for anything yet, consider whether you could offer a pair of steady hands to greet people as they are being dropped off. And, of course, there's always a need for help with cleanup. Here is a sign-up sheet where you can indicate how you can take part.  Please contact Ruth Flower, Jamesen Goodman or Lynn Brown via Breeze if you have questions.

Meeting for Business Coming up on the 15th

The folder is open. The documents that you will want to review for the upcoming meeting for business will be in this folder.  Once you open the folder, you should be able to open any document within it.  (Please advise Ruth Flower if this isn't true for you.)  Right now the folder contains minutes of the March and April meetings, the "Spiritual State of the Meeting Report" for a second reading, and a "Statement of Commitment to Anti-Racism" for a first reading. More to come.

"To love, my brothers and sisters, does not mean we have to agree.
But maybe agreeing to love is the greatest agreement.
And the only one that ultimately matters….”

Michael B. Curry, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church

High School Group:  You'll be meeting on the 15th

The high school group meets once a month in the white house on Sunday evenings from 5:30 to 7 with former Catoctin camp counselors Jamie Demarco and Sara Dean. Upcoming dates are May 15 and June 12.

In and Around Adelphi Meeting

Urgently needed:  Volunteer Help in the Nursery

We urgently need volunteers to assist Pouran Tabrizi in the Nursery from 10 to 11:30 on Sundays.  At the moment we only have one volunteer.  The more people we can count on the fewer the number of times we will need you to help out.  This is a vital service that we offer young families of our meeting and we need your help. Please contact Connie Meyer or Rob Duncan via Breeze.

Adelphi's Spring Workday - May 21 from 10 - 4

The House and Grounds Committee invites you especially to join in the raking, edging, pruning and weeding, and then to relax and enjoy the return of the workday potluck! Bring something delicious to share.  No need to sign-up -- just show-up.  There will be many activities suitable for our younger Friends as well. From smalls to talls, there's something for everyone to do. We'll work from 10 - 4 on Saturday May 21 --  come and go as your schedule permits.  Please contact Patrick Mulvey (Breeze) with questions.

Strawberry Festival Needs to Know...

The organizers (Carole Hoage, Angelyn Flowers, and Martha Woods) need to know who's available to make the Strawberry Festival hum. The event is planned for June 4, and will include a café, grill, baked goods, strawberries, music, jewelry, children's games, the train, and a modified white-elephant sale.  Please let the organizers know if you can volunteer for any of these or for the always-needed clean up.

Friends Community School

Correction:  The weekly bulletin is actually available here (contrary to the information offered in Friday's announcements!) Angela Garcia writes that the school is celebrating a sense of renewed engagement as parent and grandparent volunteers are able to return to the campus.

Reparations - How do we begin?

The Peace and Social Concerns Committee is helping us to explore what reparations might mean for Adelphi Meeting by asking us to think about local organizations that benefit Black or Indigenous people or projects in a systemic way. The Peace and Social Concerns Committee, Reparations Sub-committee, invites Friends to tell us about a local organization that could be meaningfully supported by $5,000 or less.  Please see last Friday's announcements for more details, and respond to this survey to introduce the committee to an organization: https://forms.gle/nDDrYFPtkWSkkpFn9

Reel and Meal Screens Bill Moyers' Film on ALEC

-- a Secret Corporate Lobbying Group

This will be a hybrid event; virtual attendance requires registration at  https://tinyurl.com/ReelnMealMay16. For more information, visit the Reel and Meal Facebook page or contact Doug Igelsrud at dougigelsrud@gmail.com.

How We Meet For Worship

On Sunday mornings, we gather in a "blended" meeting at 10 am:  In the meeting house and on Zoom.  For those attending virtually,  here is the Zoom link for Sunday worship and second hours. For those attending in person, masks and vaccinations are still required, to protect the vulnerable among us. Also, we can't sing in the meeting room.  Please see the general guidelines here for everyone who enters the meetinghouse for worship.

On Sunday mornings at 8:45 and at 10:00, there is an outdoor meeting in the Memorial Garden. These meetings are not 'blended" with the Zoom-and-indoor-meeting.

On Sunday evenings at 7 pm, Adelphi Meeting convenes an on-line meeting for worship. Here is the Zoom link for that meeting. (Meeting ID is 823 9626 3173 and passcode is 734636).

On Wednesdays at noon, Adelphi Meeting convenes a midweek meeting for worship for healing with a concern for a broken nation. Here is the recurring link to the Wednesday noon meetings.

Takoma Park Friends Meeting Preparative meets on Sundays in-person indoors at 11:30 am and by Zoom at 7:30 pm. On Thursdays at 3 pm, Friends meet in-person outdoors (weather permitting).

See more details for all these gatherings, including Takoma Park Friends gatherings, in this attachment.
