OCS Celebrates Community Action Month

We See You! On behalf of the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Community Services (OCS), the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) is excited to spend the month of May celebrating the life-changing work of the CSBG Network, including CSBG Tribal grant recipients!  

This year, CSBG wanted to introduce a theme for Community Action Month that embodies gratitude for the transformative impact of our CSBG programs on vulnerable communities. The theme is “We See You.”

• Too often those on the frontlines go unseen and not acknowledged.  You demonstrate everyday resilience and commitment to service.
• CSBG sees the ways in which programs have responded in flexible and innovative ways to augment community needs amid the COVID-10 pandemic.
• CSBG sees that programs have been on the ground in the wake of natural disasters, braiding and blending funds with state partners to meet emergent need.
• CSBG sees Tribal Administrators, State Associations, and the National Training and Technical Partners amplifying the goals of CSBG and focusing on strategies to help move the most vulnerable individuals and families out of poverty to build stronger communities.
• CSBG sees the Network’s commitment to equitable practices while eliminating the causes and consequences of poverty.

Throughout the month of May, and beyond, CSBG plans to elevate the remarkable work of the CSBG Network.

HHS Annual Regional Tribal Consultations

The 2022 U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Annual Regional Tribal Consultation sessions will be held virtually and in-person, with an opportunity to provide written testimony to HHS by e-mail. These sessions are designed for Tribal leaders to have the opportunity to address HHS on how HHS can improve Tribal outreach and coordination, and to discuss programmatic and policy issues and concerns with Tribes.

The Tribal Consultation Dates are:

• June 7–8, 2022: HHS Region 8
• June 15-16, 2022: HHS Region 4
• June 21–22, 2022: HHS Region 3
• June 28, 2022: HHS Region 1

Community Economic Development (CED) Grant Available

1. Applicant must be a private, non-profit CDC with 501(c)(3) status.
2. Applicant must have articles of incorporation or bylaws demonstrating that the CDC has a principal purpose in the planning, developing, or managing of low income housing or community economic development activities.
3. The Board of Directors must have representation from each of the following: community residents, business leaders, and civic leaders.

U.S. Social Sector Infrastructure Survey

The Urban Institute’s Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy, in partnership with George Mason University’s Center on Nonprofits, Philanthropy, and Social Enterprise, launched a research project to better understand the infrastructure that provides the social sector critical supports and services. Some of the questions hoping to be answered include: What are the supports and services for the US social sector? What are the strengths and weaknesses of this infrastructure? How is it changing and how might it need to change in the years to come? The survey deadline is May 25, 2022.

CAAs Featured in National Response to Infant Formula Shortage

On May 16, 2022, the Biden-Harris Administration announced critical steps to address the difficulties families are facing to find infant formula across the country. As part of those steps, the Department of Health and Human Services released a Fact Sheet with resources for families to use to find formula.

The Community Action Network is featured as the first Community Resource on the list – an affirmation of the indispensable role Community Action Agencies play in addressing and alleviating conditions of poverty at the local level. Save the Date: NCAP 2022 Annual Convention

The NCAP Annual Convention will be held August 31 - September 2, 2022, in New York City, NY. The convention will be designed to provide Community Action Agency professionals and board members the latest policy and programmatic updates as well as management and governance tools. Special emphasis will be placed on effective strategies for transforming communities and changing the lives of Community Action customers.

NCAP is offering the members rate for all Tribal grant recipients. The discount code "EARLYBIRD1" will ensure the member rate is received throughout the registration timeline. Early Childhood & Pediatrics Grants

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is excited to share a new Notice of Funding Opportunity for Transforming Pediatrics for Early Childhood (TPEC) for FY 2022.The purpose of the program is to establish resource hubs that support the placement of early childhood development (ECD) experts into pediatric practices, with a focus on patient-centered medical homes (PCMHs) and similar settings. The priority service population is young children (prenatal through five years old) and their families, who are eligible for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program, or are uninsured. The expected number of awards is four at up to $1,000,000 each per year.  Eligible entities include any domestic public or private entity, including Indian Tribes or Tribal, faith-based, or community-based organizations. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is moving forward with the next step in establishing the Tribal Intergovernmental Advisory Committee (TIAC) and has published a Federal Register Notice that formally establishes the TIAC. The Notice invites Tribes to nominate Tribal representatives to serve on the TIAC. Nominees must meet the criteria described in the Notice and nominations must be submitted by May 31, 2022. To submit a nomination, go to Regulations.gov and press the blue Comments button. You have the option to either upload a document or type a comment in the box that appears.
