Compassion

1 Peter 3:8 says, "Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble."

The word “compassion” has been sticking with me over the past couple of weeks. Compassion is an action word shown repeatedly in the Bible as in these two examples: “Jesus was moved with compassion” and “The Lord will rise up to show you compassion.” The definition of compassion is to “suffer together” and a synonym for compassion is empathy. When we understand and share feelings that others experience, we really can put ourselves in their shoes. It’s amazing to me that God has compassion on us. It’s incredible that He understands exactly what we are feeling and going through.
Over and over, God tells us to have compassion on one another. If the Creator of the Universe has compassion for us, how much more should we empathize with and love one another? We are all made in the image of God and He loves us all equally, but sometimes we choose to separate from one another and draw lines of division. This week, ask God to give you more compassion and empathy so that you can see others the way that God sees them and respond accordingly. We are not meant to do life alone or go through things by ourselves. We need to support one another.
