The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service is Looking for a Foreign Agricultural Affairs Officer!

- FSO Trainees undertake training while assigned in Washington, DC and participate and complete all aspects of their training program and perform work as directed by their supervisor. The training period may be up to 4 years (average is 2.5 years).
- The duties described are at the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity. The duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Administer market development and credit guarantee programs; develop and implement agricultural trade missions and trade shows; and maintain effective working relationships with domestic agricultural industry groups.
- Coordinate and prepare global agricultural commodity analysis strategy containing timely and reliable market information and data on production, consumption, trade, stocks, and prices.
- Analyze market conditions, government policies, and commercial practices for policymakers to support USDA export programs, trade policies, and market access issues; formulate long-term trade strategies to address trade policy.
- Prepare correspondence, briefing books, market profiles, and other background information related to agricultural trade.
- Identify, monitor, and contribute to removal or reduction of agricultural tariff and non-tariff trade, technical, sanitary, and phytosanitary barriers; support market access initiatives through policy analysis.
- Participate in monitoring and formulating strategies for administering USDA trade capacity building and food assistance programs; work to implement development activities to enhance trade and food security goals

Duties:
Under direct supervision of lead teacher, attends to the physical needs of the children. Including toileting, changing clothes, comforting for nap time and hand washing routines. Prepares and serves morning and/or afternoon snack. Assists in the food service activities related to the lunch program. This includes disinfecting tables, setting and clearing and cleaning up after meals, may include dish washing. Maintains general appearance of the classrooms, storage closets, kitchen and playgrounds. Helps prepare for activities in the classroom and on the playground as directed by the teachers. Assists teachers in program activities, supervising and interacting with the children in the classroom and on the playground. MAINTAINS CONFIDENTIALITY RELATING TO CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN THE PROGRAM.

Farm Expansion Experience (FE'E)
W/ MA'O Organic Farms - Summer Institute 2022

Climate change effects are currently altering food systems globally and locally within Hawai‘i, impacting the resilience and sustainability of community food systems. For the FEʻE Summer Institute, there will be 16 positions at MAʻO Organic Farms and 2 positions at each of 5 other the partner farms. Interns will commit to full time participation in the 12-week (May 23 to Aug 12) intensive program that will include an initial week-long orientation at MA‘O Organic Farms. Grant supported post-internship positions that continue after the internship will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
They are looking for undergraduates or recent grads interested in working in partnership to manage organic farming operations including field preparation, fertilization, planting, crop fertility and care. Pay is $15/hr for the summer!

National Tropical Botanical Garden Fall Internship Program 2022
|
|
NTBG’s Internship Program is designed for energetic and motivated individuals. Interns will work side-by-side with staff caring for and learning about the plant collections, including native Hawaiian species, breadfruit, and other tropical species. The schedule includes on-the-ground introduction and training, lectures, or workshops by NTBG staff faculty on plant propagation, plant records/mapping, botany, ethnobotany, restoration ecology, conservation, and other plant-related topics.
For students interested in the establishment, development, and maintenance of a botanical garden, this is an excellent work study opportunity for college & university level students & other adults to gain valuable, practical experience in a tropical setting.

- Duties Summary
-
Independently studies the effects of various pathogenic organisms on agricultural weeds; conducts various laboratory tests and performs field work; and performs other related duties as assigned. Plant pathogens considered are microscopic organisms and include fungi, viruses, bacteria and nematodes.
The work reflects the full range of professional responsibility which includes the entire process of identifying, receiving, screening, clearing, mass-producing, releasing and evaluating the effectiveness of plant pathogens. The work involves researching available literature on plant pathogens for potential use in Hawaii on plants which have been deemed to be noxious weeds by the Board of Agriculture; recommending that a permit for the local testing of the pathogen be requested from the U.S. Department of Agriculture; evaluating the plant pathogens received by conducting various tests to determine suitability; planning and conducting host specificity tests on target weeds, on closely related plants, and on plants important to Hawaii's agribusiness such as sugarcane, pineapple and papaya and evaluating the results of these tests; recommending pathogens for introduction; studying the life habits and host preferences of plant pathogens; developing mass breeding techniques and liberating into the field those pathogens which have been approved for release; and evaluating the effectiveness of pathogens through field recoveries.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Education and Outreach Specialist provides technical and programmatic support to TNC’s Youth Engagement team, which includes conducting research for K-12 curriculum projects; coordinating and executing creative marketing and outreach action plans; and creating youth content and curriculum to connect students with nature and teach conservation concepts. They work closely with Youth Engagement team members, other TNC teams, content hosting partner contacts, and other internal and external connections to expand outreach efforts and promote Nature Lab projects. They support communication with internal and external partners, content and curriculum development, and marketing and promotion of existing and new content. They also assist with website management, data collection, and social media management.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Assists development and management of content for The Nature Conservancy’s Nature Lab
- Organizes, manages, and coordinates diverse creative projects and manages a timeline from start to finish.
- Coordinates the work of peers on departmental project teams. May supervise volunteers, interns or temporary staff where opportunities arise.
- Assists the Youth Engagement team in executing digital strategies to engage a younger, more diverse audience, as well as steward communications among existing digital strategies and channels
- Helps facilitate creative and content for digital assets, such as email copy, image selection and web content.
- Identifies, assembles and coordinates reporting that will help monitor campaign performance.

Test your startup team's grit and gain invaluable feedback from business mentors by participating in the 2022 Summer Startup Launchpad!
Over the course of six weeks, participants will learn and practice the lean startup methodology, which challenges teams to gather data and test assumptions to help them make business decisions. Once learned, the method can be applied to any business idea with the goal of preventing founders from prematurely spending valuable resources.
Teams participate for free, thanks to a generous sponsorship from the Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation. Participants will be asked to connect online, so teams can participate from anywhere! Teams that complete the program requirements will be awarded $4,000.
