Two new government funding opportunities for suicide prevention training delivery and localized projects

Central Australia Suicide Prevention Training Program (CASPT)

The NT Department of Health is now inviting proposals from suitably qualified organisations for the provision of the Central Australia Suicide Prevention Training Program (CASPT) for a period of five years from July 1, 2022. This is an open tender process and organisations who have the capacity and capability to deliver the training are encouraged to apply.

The Central Australia Suicide Prevention Training Program will deliver an evidenced-based and culturally appropriate training program that develops awareness, knowledge and skills around strategies that reduce suicide and self-harming behaviour within the community.

Guidelines to assist applicants as well as the training program service model are available online through Grants NT https://grantsnt.nt.gov.au/.

Applications close on 5/6/2022.

2021/22 NT Community Suicide Prevention Grants

The Northern Territory Government is working to deliver its promise on reducing the suicide rate over the next five years. Too many lives are lost due to suicide, with the Northern Territory statistics being the highest in the country. In our community there are approximately 21 lives for every 100,000 people taken by suicide.

The opportunity to apply for a one-off grant is now available to community members and non-government organisations from 1 May 2022, closing 31 May 2022. Successful grants will be announced 1 July 2022.

The 2022/23 NT Community Suicide Prevention Grants are open to applications from the 'community suicide prevention activities' category. These activities are about;
  • Supporting protective connections and linkages (through sport, culture, education and community)
  • Reducing exposure to trauma (violence, sexual abuse, alcohol and drug use)
  • Developing skills in emotional resilience and managing strong feelings
  • Encouraging help seeking
  • Working together to make communities safe and supportive
  • Learning what works when help is needed
  • Feeling confident and sure about how to help
The grant will provide between $500 and $10,000 towards delivering important localised suicide prevention projects across the Territory, raising awareness to prevent suicide.

To be successful, activities are to be in line with the Northern Territory Suicide Prevention Strategic Framework’s goals of:
  • Building inclusive communities and strengthening community resilience
  • Addressing stigma and discrimination
  • Raising awareness of effective suicide prevention practices
