May 16, 2022
It's BAAAAACK - the crazy cavalcade of calendar events that makes up the end of the school year! And since we've been unable to host most of these events for the past two years, we are SO excited to welcome them back.

We had to make the tough decision to cancel our Spring Fling this weekend due to the imminent threat of severe weather.  Although we had hoped to reschedule it, the openings on our school calendar are limited.  We'll put it on hold for a later date!

We haven't had a Weekly Hoot this packed with events and information in a LONG time - please take a minute to check out the many events and signups happening in the next few weeks.

Book Fair kicks things off this week, and we need volunteer help! Volunteers are essential to many of our events. The volunteer links are posted in this newsletter, but we've also householded them in one convenient spot on our website so you don't lose them: http://www.irwinpta.org/get-involved.html.

SLT Special Meeting

Please mark your calendar for a School Improvement Team In-Person Meeting in the Media Center (remote option available via Zoom) on Wednesday, May 18th at 4:45PM.

During the pandemic, the magnet department removed the requirement of TD certification for lottery entry into the LI/TD program due to testing limitations.

Ms. Tara Lynn Sullivan, District Superintendent, and Mr. Walter Hall, Director of Magnet Programs, will be present to discuss the TD entry criteria removal and plans for support in the 2022-23 Academic Year.

This is a PUBLIC meeting and OPEN to all parents and faculty for observation. HOWEVER, it will be closed for comments from the public, but we will be collecting questions, comments and concerns before and during the meeting. If you would like to submit a comment, concern, and/or question, please utilize the Google form below which also provides an overview of the TD criteria entry removal and challenges presented.

If you have any questions please reach out to the SLT chair, Kate Campbell, kltremper@yahoo.com.

Art Show

Art Show & Movie Night
June 3

Ms. Carroll is so excited to announce that we will be having an Art Show Celebrating "Art Around The World". The Art Show will be June 3rd right after school from 5:00-6:30 PM. The PTA will be hosting a Movie Night right after the show. This will be a great opportunity for you to see the amazing hard work your favorite artist has been up to all year long and for you to meet and hang out with other amazing Irwin Families.

We expect to have several food trucks on site - easy for families to come, stay, and grab dinner while your'e there!

After the movie, stay around because you will be able to pick up your artist's artwork to take home. The kids are SUPER excited to finally be able to take their work home.
*(If you are unable to come or stay for the movie, your artist can pick up their work at school the following week.)

5th grade will be at Carowinds during the day on that date, but they are expected to be back in time for the show. (Making it easy for you to come pick up your student, then stick around for the art show!)

We will need volunteer help - sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0444aaa82baaf94-artwalk

Please send any questions to Katherinei.carroll@cms.k12.nc.us
