Help Digitize Nesting Records With Nest Quest Go!
Looking for something to do now that the FeederWatch season is over? You can continue to engage in projects that help researchers learn about birds by trying Nest Quest Go! The Cornell Lab of Ornithology started the North American Nest Record Card Program in the 1960s and successfully ran the program for more than 30 years. A few years ago the Cornell Lab's NestWatch program launched Nest Quest Go! on Zooniverse, an online platform that hosts thousands of projects where people just like you can help researchers digitize records from a variety of formats. Nest Quest Go! aims to digitize more than 300,000 nest records, and they are about halfway there. Researchers will be using these historical records to better understand nesting patterns in North American birds and how they have changed since the 1960s.
You can participate anywhere using a phone, tablet, iPad, or computer. Learn more about the history of Nest Quest Go! and how to participate on the website. Be a part of making these data come to life! Collections of nest records for Swallows and Swifts and Shore and Wetland Birds are currently available for transcription. To view our past and present projects, see the Nest Quest Go! page in Zooniverse.
