Congratulations to this year’s Professors for the Future Fellows! This competitive program recognizes and develops the leadership skills of outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Throughout the year, these 15 fellows will have the opportunity to design and work on projects that enhance the graduate or postdoctoral experience and professional development of their colleagues.

Laura Lindenfeld to Deliver Graduate Studies Commencement Address
Alumna and communication researcher Laura Lindenfeld Ph.D. ’03 will return to UC Davis as the keynote speaker for the 2022 Graduate Studies Commencement on Thursday, June 9, at the University Credit Union Center. Read about her achievements in the fields of communications and journalism.

Announcing the 2022 Distinguished Graduate and Postdoctoral Scholar Mentorship Award Recipients
This award recognizes the vital role mentoring plays in the academic and professional development of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars at UC Davis. This year, four individuals were selected for their outstanding mentoring of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Read more.
Finding a Passion for Community Nutrition
Growing up in a single-parent home, Britt Loofbourrow, Ph.D. ’22 came from a family that had to make difficult decisions between food and other necessities. Her experience with food insecurity and using CalFresh benefits fueled her passion for community nutrition and volunteering with the Graduate Student Association Food Pantry. Read her inspiring story.
Inspiring and Empowering Women In Space
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering master’s student Janine Moses is a strong example of the significance of women in engineering. From interning at the NASA Johnson Space Center, to scuba diving in the Neutral Buoyancy Lab, Janine, along with several other female engineers are making an everlasting impact in the field. Global Education for All Fellows Program

Fellows have options to advise on different aspects of Global Education for All, or work on team projects that help further integrate global learning on campus. Students come from a variety of fields of study, so there is opportunity for interdisciplinary networking and collaboration. In addition, fellows will have opportunities to participate in mentorship and work with campus leadership.

Simons Postdoctoral Fellowships in Marine Microbial Ecology
Deadline: May 13 | Learn more and apply
The fellowships support research on fundamental problems in marine microbial ecology, with an emphasis on understanding the role of microorganisms in shaping ocean processes, and vice versa. The fellowship provides an annual stipend of $62,000 and an annual allowance of up to $25,000, with support provided for up to three years.

STEM Solutions in Public Policy Award

This award recognizes one or more outstanding proposals for new California legislation from UC STEM graduate students. The winner(s) will receive a $250 research stipend and – should their bill advance through the legislative process – will travel to Sacramento to convene with Legislators and/or legislative staff (expenses covered by UCCS).

Poetry Foundation: Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellowships

A grant of $25,800 from the Poetry Foundation, publisher of Poetry magazine, given to each fellow to encourage further study and writing of poetry. Young poets who are US citizens between 21-31 years of age are encouraged to apply.

LOI UC-National Lab In-Residence Graduate Fellowships

The UC-National Lab In-Residence Graduate Fellowships provide up to three years of support for Ph.D. candidates to conduct in-residence thesis research at Los Alamos or Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories.

NSF Political Science Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants
Deadline: June 15 | Apply now
Proposals recommended for funding must demonstrate how the proposed research will contribute to the advancement of basic political-science scientific theory and knowledge. The most competitive proposals will also demonstrate how already significant research will be improved with additional funding.

The Helen Hay Whitney Foundation Research Fellowship

The fellowship supports early postdoctoral research training in all basic biomedical sciences and provides a stipend, research allowance, and dependent child allowance for three years. Advanced graduate students and postdoctoral scholars beginning training are eligible to apply for a fellowship.

Morris Animal Foundation Mark L. Morris Jr. Investigator Award

The mission of Morris Animal Foundation is to bridge science and resources to advance the health of animals. To honor the legacy and vision of the son of our founder, the Mark L. Morris Jr. Investigator Award is designed to support an area of companion animal research for which there is a pressing need and potential for rapid progress.

NASA Postdoctoral Program
Deadline: July 1 | Find a fellowship
Support is available in the areas of astrophysics, earth science, aeronautics, biology and astrobiology, cosmo-chemistry, heliophysics, planetary science, and technology development. The program provides a minimum stipend of $60,000, a travel allowance of $10,000, and reimbursements for health insurance and relocation.

The GSA Food Pantry is open to all graduate students and offers food, toiletries, diapers, menstrual products and more. Hours are Mondays, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. and Thursdays, 12:30 - 2:30 pm. Located in 1213 Walker Hall. Visit the GSA Basic Needs site for more information.

Nominate an Undergrad to Become a McNair Scholar
The McNair Scholars Program prepares students from low-income, first-generation, and groups often underrepresented in graduate programs to pursue Ph.D. degrees. Please share this announcement with undergraduate students who can participate to receive graduate school and GRE preparation, admissions application assistance, paid travel to research conferences and a paid summer research internship. Graduate Teaching Community: Structures that Support Student Learning

Improving Science Communication through Improv Theater
