Aircrete
Why would we go to the west desert of Texas? For a training in an alternative construction called "Aircrete."
What is Aircrete you might be wondering? It is a form of concrete construction that does not use sand or gravel in the cement mix, but instead is inflated with millions of tiny bubbles. It's not truly new as it has been used in Europe and Asia for decades, but there are not many areas of the US with standards in place to permit this form of construction.
It's also an appropriate technology for the developing world context as there is minimal training required, it's about a third of the cost of building with cinder blocks, and the primary material (Portland cement) is readily available.
A few of the benefits of Aircrete are:
It is considered a sustainable building method
It's fireproof
It's pest proof
It has a high insulation value
It's cheaper than most alternatives
Our first project with Aircrete in Honduras will be building a small team house next to the pavilion at the training center. We also look forward to using Aircrete in some construction projects as a blessing in the community for those in need. Equip has also asked us to develop a training course that can be given at the Equip headquarters in Marion, NC.
We are excited about the possibilities of Aircrete and how the Lord can use it bless the people and to glorify Himself!
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them
will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
